16-dayer shows above average temps and dry weather spreading up through W Europe towards the Baltic, while further east still cold and in places wet from the Caspian down into Turkey. Doesn't match the GFS synoptics at all well

GFS brief burst of Atlantic activity with trough for most of UK linked to LP 970mb Iceland Fri 26th and another more affecting Scotland linked to 955mb Iceland Mon 29th. That passes on into Scandinavia but the worst of its trailing N-lies deflected for a while by new HP 1035mb NI Thu 1st Apr - but the LP over Scandinavia regroups Denmark 1000 mb and brings in a spell of N/NE-lies Sat 3rd - Wed 7th while the HP retires to Greenland. At end of run Fri 9th pressure is slack over the UK but with residual cold air.

GEFS temp dips briefly on Fri 29th then mild in S to Wed 31st after which (unlike previous forecasts) a long period of consistently cool weather agreed on by most runs - 3/5C below norm through to Fri 9th. Intermittent and small amounts of rain. Scotland misses out on the mild spell but does warm up a little towards Fri 9th; also more rain around Mon 29th there and NW England. Also, later on. some wet days for the E coast.

ECM agrees with GFS, if anything the N/NE-ly spell is  more directly from the Arctic controlled by trough of LP the whole length of Norway

The GEFS snow row total for London was down to 3 a week ago. I thought we were soon going to be seeing 0.....but now it's back up over 50! Unlikely that we'll see any snow in the south but it shows the cool trend mentioned by DEW 😔

TWO snow row is at 13/33 so less than 50%. Sites using slightly different grid points could be showing something different.

A significant cold plunge from the north looks more and more likely this morning as we head to the start of April.  Could be some beefy snow showers to be had.

Not liking these charts at all as we head towards Easter. And you just know that unlike in the depths of winter, these won't back down and will deliver a horrible mix of sleet and hail showers with a bitter North easterly wind. God I hate our climate sometimes.

Yeah, and isn't this just bloody typical. You know this one won't back down, given that we are (mostly) looking forward to the end of lockdown and a chance to get out and about in spring sunshine over Easter.

Just as we entered Lockdown 1 last year, the weather was glorious and warm, now the complete opposite. It sums up this country perfectly. We are dammed.

Wasn’t it 2 Easters ago (might have been 3)

start of Easter (Good Friday) it snowed (and settled) in Peak District

But last year during first lockdown it was rather warm

Easter 2018 was a cold one. I remember some higher routes getting snow on the Easter Monday (2 April).

Easter 2019 was a stunner. All four days were lovely and warm and sunny.

Easter 2020 started warm but turned colder as it progressed.

But yes it's looking increasingly likely this one could join the cold club. Some of those charts look very reminicient of early April 2008 which saw snow to some quite low and southerly locations.

I remember one Easter school holidays taking my kids on a 'snow safari' in the Peak District. Disappointing depths and we got to near Buxton before finding enough to sledge on. Going on pics and the ages of the girls, I reckon 2011 or 2012.

Could have been 2012? This was during the Easter holidays up here:

The theme does seem quite consistent. To be honest I would prefer a warm sunny spell (but that is unfortunately irrelevant regarding what will happen!)

Obviously there was 2013 as well, I remember going skiing near Halifax where they have a couple of small tow lifts on Good Friday (29th March), we still had snow cover across the Easter period, all from the snow on 21/22st March.

It definitely wasn't 2013. I remember that very well!

You only have to go back one year for a switcheroo at this time of year. Exactly one year ago, the first half of the first lockdown week was shirtsleeve weather for going out for a walk - but the second half of that week thick coats were needed.

Hope for some to get skiing once lockdown eases a bit.  Some of my best days skiing have been in April.

I remember being on Cairngorm one April in the early 90s. The snow was down to the car park level and most or all of the runs were open. We didn't ski on that occasion but took the chairlifts up to the Ptarmigan cafe. Looking down to Loch Morlich was a magnificent sight.

The GFS showing remarkably widespread snow falling on the 3rd April, 8 days too early for Buchanan’s second cold spell, but the cold could linger until then on this run.
