We're not expecting much in the way of rainfall for now, but the outlook is a little bit more unsettled as we go further into this month and since it is now winter, I am hoping that at least some of this precipitation will fall as snow at some point in time.

Whatever happens though, this is the very place to post those all important totals for this month.

8.1mm so far today here, and from the look of the radar there is plenty more to come.

Temperature has dropped from 6.5C earlier to 5.2C now. 15mm for the day now so 5mm in past 45 mins or so. Phone app still going for rain turning to snow in the early hours tonight - would be nice to see some flakes albeit with no hope of anything settling here I would think.

19mm for the day so far. Stopped for now and temperature has dropped to 3.6C. Further ppn is due in the night and my phone app still reckons it will turn to snow around 2am. Could be the first lamppost watch of the season!

Just reached the 20 mm mark (since 12 am) with another spell of heavy rain but winds are now flat calm after having been strong southerly all day.

Currently 6.7 c so I think it will remain in liquid form for now.

The very wet start to this winter goes on, and it's even chucking it down here even as I write.

On the basis of 1mm rain = 1cm snow that 8mm at gogarbank matches very precisely to the 8cm on my bikestore roof!

I will give my next full report here tomorrow but even since my last report here (which was only posted here this morning), we have had a further 14.4 mm of rain at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon, along with 10.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

That already makes today our wettest day of this winter so far at both of those stations regardless of what happens from now on, and it is still absolutely chucking down here as I write.

The result of this is that during this month so far, we have already had more than half of our 1981-2010 December average rainfall at both of those stations (36.4 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 31.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 4pm this afternoon) and we are only about half way through the first week of this month.

This is clearly turning out to be a thoroughly wet and miserable start to this winter as we continue to pay for all of the dry weather which we had during November.
