Looks like daytime heating has sufficed with the cap breaking now. Thunderstorms explosively developed south of Coventry and also just west of St Albans during the last half hour. The latter in its infancy with the Coventry cell now looking particularly strong on radar.
Looks like a lively evening/night in store for some!
Torrential rain now and another rumble way to the SW
I heard that rumble of thunder here in the north of Edinburgh as well. In addition to that, I have a feeling that I might even have seen a very brief flash of lightning before then (although I can't actually confirm that), which was very bright but faint due to it being so far away in the distance.
Some thundery outbreaks about to make landfall in East Kent.
It's now absolutely chucking it down with rain here, but that looks like being it for now, in terms of any more thunder or lightning.
Really kicking off over Snowdonia National Park. WW3!https://www.lightningmaps.org/#d=2;dl=2;dc=0;m=oss;t=2;s=0;o=0;b=;ts=0;z=6;y=51.1793;x=-0.835;

Pretty much constant lightning to the east of Kendal towards the Lune Valley area, 20-30 flashes a minute, and four or five flashes a minute to the west where the first storm (that Bill mentioned) is petering out. There have been a couple of cloud to ground strikes that have been visible. We had one close enough that the power went out momentarily.
Can't see me getting much sleep tonight as it's the first proper storm I've seen since I moved to a house with a fantastic view for skywatching.
