I’m not sure how long it will continue to drop for but Braemar was at -11.5°C at 7pm.

Even at Edinburgh Airport, the temperature was already down at -6°C at 7:20pm this evening after having come within a whisker of experiencing what would have been the only official ice day to have occurred so far at any of my three local stations if that had actually happened.

It will therefore be interesting to see whether or not, we can go all the way down to minus double digits at that particular station, as that is something which didn't even happen here during last winter at any time.

Although still very cold the temperature at Braemar bottomed out early in the night at around -15.3°C.

(Obviously, as it was colder than the previous night , this is the lowest U.K. temperature for 7 years).

Local forecast here going for a min of -9C tonight and we usually dip a little below the forecast, so double digits on the cards.

Nothing of note with a low of -4.8C. Incredulous how the once unexceptional reading of -5C has become almost impossible to achieve.

This speaks volumes:

Number of times -5C reached in March between 2006 and 2012: 4

Number of times -5C reached in total between 2013 and 2019: 2

Reached 3.6C during the day so barely registers as cold at this time of year. On course to be the first winter since 2007/08 without a max below 2C, something even December 2015 managed.

Also, it's not even below freezing at the moment so yet to even see a day below freezing from sunset to sunrise never mind an ice day

Also, at Dyce, it appears there were 5 days in 2013 alone: Jan 15 (-7.6) Jan 16 (-8.1) and then scrapes on Feb 27, March 11 and March 31.

In fact, looking at Dyce's data from  Tutiempo there were 12 additional from 2014-18 including 6 days of -6 or below including -7.7 on 10.12.17.

Having said that, I don't know how reliable that site is, nor do I know if Dyce is the station you used.
