It seems that there could be some very low temperatures possible in parts of the Highlands in the next 48hr or so. I couldn’t find the previous thread so thought new low temperature reports could go in here. Note it is not necessary in a thread like this to say where it is not cold.

It wasn’t quite as cold as forecast last night I think. The lowest minimum I can find so far is -9.2°C at Braemar.

Even here in Edinburgh, the temperature got down to -6°C at Edinburgh Airport and this continues to be a completely snowless winter here so far. Given how busy the snow reports thread has suddenly become though, I know that there are quite a number of places which did get snow and so due to that snow cover which is around in those places, I would have expected it to be much colder in at least a number of those places during the night under clear skies than what it was here, as a result.

As mentioned above though, the most favoured places for that would be the Highlands in those places such as Altnaharra which are just as famous for its cold temperature records during the winter as what the likes of Gravesend in SE England is for its high temperature records during the summer.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

1.3c looks like being our max today as we've now slipped back to 1c. MetO auto going for -5c by 20.00 this evening, so a rapid fall on the cards after sunset.

Temp at Manchester Airport currently -1c, so almost certainly an ice day there.

It's only in the last hour that the sun has broken through the fog in the City Centre, so the temp is going to be subdued - although I think the UHI effect will have lifted temps above freezing earlier.

Struggled up to 3C this afternoon, skies are still clear although there is high cloud to the west. Could get fairly cold before the cloud moves in overnight ahead of that feature moving south (which auto output suggests might give a few flakes in the morning). Still plenty of snow on the grass in the back garden where the sun hasn't hit it.

Not quite an ice day here, max 0.1C.

A day of two halves, clear skies and sparking sunshine in the morning, fog in the afternoon.

The max today was 3.8c and already down to -1.5c, still lots of snow left in the garden and in the parks (3cm). It certainly looks like it will be the coldest night of the winter so far.

-2.7 here already this evening, it did get close to +2 about 2pm though.
It's supposed to warm up slowly after midnight

Nothing of note with a low of -4.8C. Incredulous how the once unexceptional reading of -5C has become almost impossible to achieve.

This speaks volumes:

Number of times -5C reached in March between 2006 and 2012: 4

Number of times -5C reached in total between 2013 and 2019: 2

Reached 3.6C during the day so barely registers as cold at this time of year. On course to be the first winter since 2007/08 without a max below 2C, something even December 2015 managed.

Also, it's not even below freezing at the moment so yet to even see a day below freezing from sunset to sunrise never mind an ice day

-4.6c here too. Lowest reading this winter and we don’t have snow cover but we do still have frost from last night.

Bump.

Currently -12°C in Braemar but the lowest I can see overall was at Loch Glascarnoch where it dipped to -12.7°C in last hour or so.

-8.2 a few minutes ago, that might be the lowest since December 2010, we don't particularly get very low minima here due to not being far from the Sea.

It's interesting Blakey Ridge is on -2.6C so the main reason it's so cold is a light wind inversion

Here in Edinburgh, the temperature got down to -6.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -8°C at Edinburgh Airport and -5.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which makes last night, the coldest night of this winter so far at all three of my local stations.

In addition to that, freezing fog has also closed in which could result in today being our first official ice day of this winter if it hangs around for any length of time.
