Actually turned out a better day than expected. Had some decent sunny spells and topped out at 21.3C. The only problem is, at this time it is way too cool to sit out in the evening sunshine without a jumper.

Had to wear my hoodie to day to go up the road in rain.. Not seen much sunshine today.  Prefer it to be like this.   Rather than too damn hot.

Others just get wet.

An uncanny feel to the air this morning... that chill which you usually expect in October. I have also noticed that orange/yellow tint to the atmosphere another sure sign Autumn is on the way....

I have this weekend off and tomorrow down here looks horrible!!

Low cloud and drizzle to start with then bursts of moderate rain on/off for the rest of the day... Great!! I would tour around but Cornwall on a wet day in August is a slow moving car park.

At least with the 7.5m Spring tides and fresh westerly winds the beaches will be interesting... I dare say the lifeguards will be busy trying to stop people getting cut off...

The French around here are joyous that after yesterday’s biblical deluge the fields will soon be dewy and verdant again, but I’m depressed for exactly the same reason. I was enjoying the baked yellow Burgundian landscape.

Stiil sweating here inside the storage radiator I call home waiting for Newton's Law of Cooling to do its work.

However, stepping outside is like stepping into a refrigerator, so unlike a few days ago, at least it's possible to cool down.

The horror movie sequel 'Back to Summer 2007' continues with another totally rank and soul destroying hideous weekend.

Vile, grey and depressingly dull. Just 14.7C and waiting for the rain to arrive. We have now had to endure four crap grey weekends in a row, each with under 10 hours sunshine in total. There were only three such dismal offerings in the entirety of last summer which just says it all.

Since I returned from holiday three weeks ago the weekdays have averaged 7.9 hours sun per day, little difference with the first half of summer, while the weekends have averaged a putrid and totally unacceptable 3.8 hours with not a single mostly sunny day. This weekend curse is typical of the past 11 years but this is by far the worst I've ever seen.

I am absolutely disgusted at being stuck indoors on a glorious day like the past Thursday - with blue skies and fluffy clouds. It was an ideal day for photography. Contrast that with the ugly, utterly useless and worthless crap outside today and it makes me mad. I am truly loathing what this summer has turned into

I think up here now summer has taken on that mixed late summer feel that I feared. There may be the odd nice day but it just feels like a transition to autumn. The prospects for the next week don't look great and a settled period in the forecast seems to be stuck at around day 7. Temperatures are still holding up ok though at least. Feels quite humid with this damp weather.

Radio One is the most depressing station to listen to at times like this cos at 25C, sunny, they still have their summer vibes down there in full swing whilst here it is damp, dull and miserable.

Hoping for a decent September starting in late August to finish off 🙂.

Granted though, it looks like improving here with 25/26c and sunny spells over the next few days. A blip on Thursday with some showers and then back to settled, sunny weather with 23-25c over the weekend. So a definite improvement coming up, but no heatwave.

It does make a huge difference though when it is just crap for 4 days. We've been on a downward spiral since mid July and I've said before, each week always looks slightly wetter and cloudier than the last. We are now at the stage where the following week is looking like we will get no sun, a few rain days and temperatures hovering around 20C. It's the lack of sun that gets me down.

Sunny with temperatures of 25C is our norm during a "heatwave" so if the forecast was for anything like that, I'd be skipping!

I've just checked BBC weather and temperatures now look a little bit cooler and any sun has been pushed back to next Tuesday. BBC tend to play it safe though and only add rain and more cloud into the forecast when it comes nearer to the time so you get a false impression that sun is just around the corner.

The past few weeks has seen summer during the week and autumn at the weekend. Now it feels like it's full blown autumn. Totally revolting for the past two days with essentially zero sunshine and high rain hours though not much rain. Another totally crap evening of grey skies and 15.6C

Not had a day with 12 hours sun this August which hasn't happened since 2011. No real sign of one either. Very uninspiring outlook and another cloudy weekend would easily place this second half of summer on a par with 2007/2011/2012. Very limited opportunity for outdoor activities in the past three weeks because there has been almost no fine weather except during working hours

The outlook for Aberdeen for the next week is average to above average temperatures with a little bit of rain on odd days but no washouts. If this carries on highly likely August will end up with substantially below average rainfall and potentially result in a drier than average summer.

Probably closer to summer 1994 which was often overcast but generally dry and warm in the NE.

Well the sunny warm weather generally ended for us in Edinburgh on 28th July and August has been generally poor so far. The last 2 days in particular have seen highs of 15 and 14.4 at my nearest station with 48hrs of fog and drizzle. The forecast for the next 6 days is for a lot of cloud and rain unfortunately 👎

Warm and sunny now in London after some stubborn cloud this morning. Currently 24c. Should hit 25c quite easily today, possibly higher.

However, a few members of this forum have kindly advised me not go down that road simply as a result of a few comments which were made by what is actually, a very small minority of this forum's members.

Upon listening very carefully to such advice, I will not be leaving this forum after all. Also as a result of listening carefully to what others have said, I will be making a few changes to how I post things on this forum. In the past, I realise that I have tried to be too much like Richard from Aberdeen in my own posting style, so that will not be the case from now on and this means that there won't be the use of such terms as 'soul-destroying' or 'permacast hell'. Richard from Aberdeen is this forum's main expert in that sort of stuff, so I will leave that to him from now on.

In that note, I apologise for how I responded in that thread which I have just mentioned. However, it is also important to realise that I have a condition called Asperger's Syndrome which is on the mild end of the Autistic Spectrum which causes me to be more prone to sensory overload than people who don't have that condition. I would therefore be grateful if any member who wishes to criticise my style of posting, at least makes some allowances for me having that condition, before posting such criticisms.

Everyone has the right to comment on what I am posting, as that is what this forum or any other forum out there is all about after all. All I am asking therefore, is for any such comments to be made in such a way that they remain relevant to the subject on which that particular thread which such a post is being made, is all about. After, I feel that this forum has become too much of a personal slagging match at times, and I don't want my discussions on here to become dominated by what members think about my style of posting, especially since that is irrelevant to the very subject which is meant to be discussed on that particular thread in question.

Anyway, I did say that I wouldn't be trying to emulate Richard from Aberdeen from now on and so, I felt that there would be no better place to start than this very thread which is after all, the one where Richard comes across at his best. Since this is the moaning thread, I have plenty to moan about as regards to this month's weather so far.

First of all, if we look at sunshine totals, we have had a total of just half an hour of sunshine for the whole of today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 7pm this evening. That follows on from the two completely sunless days which we had on Sunday and Monday, so that total of half of hour of sunshine for today is the total for the last three days, and that is very poor for this time of year. Sunday was the first completely sunless day of this month, the second sunless day of this summer and only the first sunless day since the early part of June. Yet, it was then followed by another sunless day yesterday as well, so we have now had just three sunless days during this summer so far, but with two of them occurring during this month.

Altogether, we have had a total of exactly 40.0 hours of sunshine during this month so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 7pm this evening. The August 1981-2010 average at Edinburgh Gogarbank is 149.0 hours of sunshine. We are almost half way through the month and so, we have only had not much more than a half of the amount of sunshine which we would have expected to have had just now at this stage of August. This means that this month is clearly running quite a lot duller than average just now.

This month is still warmer than average, but the temperature anomaly have plummeted in recent days to the point where both Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh are now both less than half a degree warmer than average overall, which is quite a lot cooler than what it was like during June and July.

Furthermore, we had a wettish start to the month followed by a dry spell after that which resulted in this month being drier than average overall until just a few days ago. However, the heavens then opened which has resulted in us getting quite a lot of rain over the last three days. This has pushed this month's rainfall at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh to 33.4 mm as at 7pm this evening. Since the August 1981-2010 average for the botanic gardens in Edinburgh is 60.2 mm, we have now had more than half of this month's average rainfall so far. Since we are not yet half way through the month, this means that this month is now running wetter than average just now at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

When you add all of that together, this month is running only slightly warmer than average, and is also running both duller and wetter than average, so that doesn't exactly add up to a good month so far as August continues to let us down as it has done in so many summers (including many decent summers) in the past.

I think it's safe to say the real summer is over now up here. We were on the brink of it for weeks, flitting back and forth but now we seem to be safely on the wrong side of it. The model thread is now all about models hinting at heat pushing north in 7-10 days which is never a great place to be and it has been the same for 2 weeks now as expected. Any sun now will feel like late summer / early Autumn which has a bit of a different feel but I would take it because it's still pleasant. Just sad we lost the summer momentum so early.

What I hate about this setup is, on the face of it 22C cloudy doesn't sound that bad but the very grey skies and un-forecast lingering drizzle are what make it worse.
