GFS 6z looks very progressive in bringing LP close to the UK. Differences from the 00z start as early as T96.

I expect it will be out ok kilter with the ensembles.

Like you say still differences early in the run though so not resolved yet.

The output I will be more focused on today will be the UKMO 12z.

He should be fired as he only prefer cool and unsettled weather instead of forecasting the actual outcome or follow the models what shown.  Great ensembles and still showing hot to very hot at times just like August 1995 when 35C was at the start of the month then follow by 30C plus days.  We are now near to the peak of the summer season  Temps here would be ranging from 28C to 33C every day with 35C once or twice.

Well, despite the naysayers it seems we've got some rain IMBY - the first rainfall for 43 days. The noon temperature is 19.4C, too.

The ensembles picked this up a week ago, showing a wet and cooler end to the week. They were spot on for here at least.

The Kent rain will hopefully hold off for my barbie although I’ve got the pall of permacast and cooler temperatures associated with it. The more worrying rain is the thunderstorms later. iPhone app giving me 40% risk at 7pm.

Definitely not such a good pattern for the North and West as earlier in the season. We’re back into a more 2015 set-up, with the SE on the edge of major heat.

Perhaps it was 'home grown heat' a result of an anticyclone sitting over the area for a long period of time?

Just ran through the 12Z GFS looking at the 850mb charts and it looked rather dreadful. Then ran through looking at the pressure charts and it is actually pretty good. Not mega hot but looking mostly settled right out until August 5 (when I am doing a mountain bike race in the Dales and don't want too much heat anyway!)

Good news from ECM

@kerry_mason 66% of @ECMWF members agree on a ridge of high pressure persisting across Northern Europe through to mid August.

The hot plume fades away by 192 but renewed ridging is coming in from the SW. Nice run.
