Indeed! I spent all of yesterday in the garden or outside generally and although it was only sunny for brief periods it was very nice. I don’t expect warm evenings in a coastal location in a maritime climate at 57°N. Any warm evenings are the exception and are very welcome.

The weather is very useable and about to get better but perhaps expectations and looking for the negative rather than the positive leads to different views. 

I judge the summers up here by amount of “useable” outside time and since May there has been a good amount of it. One unexpected bonus has been the lack of rainfall means I have not had to cut the grass very much this year.

Is this morning’s cloud up there permacast or Stratocast? Down here we have a bit of the latter, but nothing too bad. Or what the French call voile (sheet / sail).

It is more the rapidlydisappearingcast type  There will however be one little stubborn patch over one part of the city no doubt.

Yep, yesterday was cloudy (old fashioned terminology) most of the day but I was able to cut the grass and be outside in a t-shirt no problem.

Bizarrely this morning it does seem to be getting cloudier here rather than clearing... but I am an optimist at heart so will keep the faith.

I can`t think of anything to moan about this summer so far, except maybe that as we are on a water meter I`m probably spending a fortune watering the garden and filling the pond up with the hosepipe!

In the far south west we are getting spoilt with these NE-SE winds!!

It's warm

It's sunny

The sea temp is a couple of degrees up due to the surface water warming. Normally the SW breeze brings in cooler waters from the Atlantic.

However the UV is forecast at 9 today so skin beware...

Just unbelievable. Almost as soon as the cloud cleared a sea breeze set in and now the sky is almost completely full of vile North Sea cloud.

Temperature is an absolutely disgusting 14.2C when earlier this week some of the models were showing 23C. I can't express in words how hacked off I am with enduring this endless barrage of crap. It is as bleak and depressing as living in Shetland.

Now doubt it will be like this all week and next weekend

Given that the record high in Aberdeen is 26.7 for June temps pushing up much more than 20C must be fairly rare events anyway ?

Also the record is not 26.7C. It is 28.9C though getting much past 21C seems to be a struggle these days.

Latest 'Appeggee' (is that how you spell it) is going for temps into the low 30s here (and for hours on end) from Tuesday to Thursday. I pray that this 'model has gone off on one'.

You're probably right in a way because any time that I have travelled up to Aberdeen in the past, it has always been freezing cold there  (although I would expect them to be used to that there). Yet, I've been to Inverness before which is just as far north (but quite a lot further west) and on that occasion, they actually had better weather than what we were getting here in Edinburgh.

It is just so infuriating. It could have reached around 23C with a SW flow here. Don't have high hopes for this coming week at all. No W/SW winds forecast at all. Only chance of decent temperatures is if the wind is southerly rather than directly off the sea.

I doubt that the 23.9C I recorded on 2nd June will be beaten this week and could even have been the hottest day of the year. I prefer warm rather than hot temperatures but we should really be seeing one or two days in a summer climbing to 25C.

In the absence of a weather appreciation thread, I thought I should post here.

Absolutely gorgeous weather here (Epsom Downs) with deep blue skies, strong sunshine, a lovely breeze and low humidity.

Having time off this week makes it even better with all meals outside and staying in the garden until midnight. 

Stratospheric impacts or not, the weather since early February has been fantastic, thank you weather gods!

Yesterday was not pleasantly warm once the sun went away. 16C and overcast is not pleasant. I had to put a jumper on but eventually just gave up and came inside. 

The average sunshine since 9th June has been 4.3 hours per day. Three Saturdays in a row have failed to manage 5 hours sun. That is indeed appalling though it speaks volumes about the state of summer over the past decade that there have been several years when it's been even worse.

I was able to set out in the garden more last June,despite it being the wettest on record, because the evenings and weekends were often fine - far better than this year. It has been a real struggle to find any opportunity to sit in the garden for the past fortnight and I'm sick of it.
