Well on Saturday I was walking in the Lakes. High humidity and 23 C for my 2nd day with majestic Cumulonimbus and the odd tropical downpour. Loads of thunder well to the east. My favourite weather and great to be away from the fresh 18C back in Edinburgh

Right on the edge of the shower area, all we got was a few drops of rain.

There's no thunder and lightning here and there isn't anything of that nature showing up on any of the radar maps just now.

However, we do have a quite a big torrential downpour going on here in Edinburgh just now and the radar map does also show show some very intensive echoes moving across the area.

In terms of the amount of rainfall (which is still to be determined by what the local weather stations record in response to that), this is certainly making up for all of the recent dry weather and the near misses before then from some nearby thunderstorms which never quite managed to reach us. The only left that is missing now, is some actual thunder and lightning to go with that.

The torrential rain which I reported a short while ago has now moved away to the east but at its peak, it resulted in 4.6 mm of rain being recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank within one single hour alone between 2pm and 3pm. That in turn is enough is ensure that today will now go down as the wettest day of the summer so far, at that particular station.

Recent storm here moved right overhead with mainly cc/ic lightning - not that active - say a rumble every couple of minutes but the rainfall was impressive! 15mm in as many minutes - gutters couldn't cope so added to the downpour effect! Some brief strong straightline winds.

After a reasonable day in Pickering with some sunshine we had a torrential downpour from around 5pm to 5.30pm. A couple of rumbles of thunder, and it was raining so hard the gutters couldn`t cope.

I hope Cheadle Hulme had similar weather as our garden at least was bone dry with the grass turning yellow.

Peak rain rate was calculated at 583mm per hour.
6th July last year managed about double that rate, and gave 29mm in an hour.

Had a bit of thunder around 7pm but didn’t amount to much at all.  We usually do well here but have had very little this year.

Some heavy-ish looking returns on the radar for SW England - I just wonder how much is actually falling to ground level? As far as thunderstorm activity goes, some strikes registered a while ago off the coast, but not really any activity over land just now.

Anyway, nice to have something else to talk about other than sunshine and how hot it is.

Our S Dorset convection reduction system seems to be working as well as it has done so far this summer. Thundery activity seems to be dissappearing as it nears us.
