You can knock two degrees off the London values to get a more realistic picture for the South East.

As the forecast said, those values will only be reached briefly.

Good forecast by Tomasz just now.

Good as in professional.. not wildly exciting for cold lovers. A cold snap this weekend with a covering of snow possible in eastern parts...

Ended with a snapshot of Europe and he showed -5C in Warsaw.. he explained that this isn't especially cold.. it often gets much colder at this time of year.

The BBC are clearly trying to tone down any possible hype of cold and snowy weather. Fair enough! :-)

Yes, no real mention of anything wintry on the BBC Scotland forecast...but then again there rarely is. The graphics had splodges of white in the east but the presenter only mentioned showers (not preceded by the word wintry!)

It's like they're making a conscious effort to stop the tabloid press getting wind of any of it. "Don't get too excited" kinda thing.

Can't say I blame them.

The Met Office are clearly not worried about any likelihood of anything remotely severe or disruptive so at least we have some clarity on that.

I'd say that is probably several degrees off the February record but I'd need to check.

An east to south-easterly wind will gradually bring less cold air to most parts throughout this period. There is likely to be a lot of dry weather around, although it'll probably be rather cloudy. The best of any bright spells will be towards the west and northwest through the early part of the week, whereas some snow showers are likely in the east, with a small chance of these becoming heavier and spreading to central and some western areas. It will feel very cold in the easterly wind with a widespread night frost. Later in the period there is a chance of seeing some rain or snow affecting the west and northwest at times but elsewhere it should stay largely dry with snow showers becoming lighter and less frequent.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 22 Feb 2017 to Wednesday 8 Mar 2017:

Through the rest of February, the preferred scenario is for conditions to remain largely settled overall, meaning that our weather will probably stay on the cold side. There are likely to be a lot of dry days and some sunny spells but the nights will be cold, probably with some frost and fog for some. There is a small risk of a few sleet or snow showers in southern and eastern parts, although confidence is low. Occasional but most likely short-lived spells of milder and wetter weather are possible, and these will most likely be in the west and northwest. The weather at the start of March currently looks rather uncertain, but there is a chance it could turn milder and more unsettled.

Ok so this is what I don't get -  all I need is an answer to solve this confusion - is the Met Office update a day behind the gfs!?

Looking at GFS from around 13th it looks like it would turn much milder - so why has the forecast still gone for "staying cold and feeling cold in the easterly wind' - from 12th - 21st then still from 22nd it says I quote "probably stay on the cold side!"

I wonder what tomorrows update would be!?

Haha, tomorrows front page headline from the Express.

"Killer freeze to last ten days".

Yes, this is to do with the next few days. Bit dramatic do you think, though not ruling out someone will have a nasty experience somewhere.

God help us when there is some bad weather to take caution with. Joe Public won't believe it they have been falsely warned so many times.

Killer freeze? Only if someone facepalms too hard after reading Rao's twaddle.

They don't just type what the GFS shows, either yesterday's or today's.

How the heck is this possible and with ground temperature at +16c for a day how can the snow settle?

So what...? the temperature falls by some 16c in 8 hours and all of a sudden you get a blizzard!?

The weather in the USA is crazy! A relative out in N.C had a winter ice storm warning after a day of 18c and then the next day it was back up to the high teens. They must keep every piece of clothing they have at hand as ANY season can happen within a few hours.
