GFS 06z is buliding a large high pressure system from the West next weekend into the following week.

Note, other models like the ECM has high pressure buliding abit earlier than this.

GFS is still not having any meanful rainfall for the south next week. It is a  Low Resolution so maybe the model won't pick up on showers however. Tuesday looks the best chance.

This option is gathering more and more support. Fits in with expectations for mid month to be very warm to hot. I'd say 9th-10th onwards.

The useless app are so terrible wrong for this coming week as vast difference from all the models and from posts that are so informative, all I see is no sun, rain all day and extremely low day maxes.  All I know will be hot dry and sunny in low 30s here on Monday then mid 20s with sunshine and staying dry as we been told HP strongly build again.  Today was 26.5C while app undercooked at 23.  Been using fan every night and day from late morning to 5 or 6 to turn off.  I would not use fan if the temps was 23 as the twat app think.

It's also been under doing the temps by a degree or two recently.

I saw GFS has 35 as soon as tomorrow, That would make 5 heatwaves where 35c has been reached, over 4 consecutive months.

Prior to this the previous record was 2 heatwaves of 35c, and prior to Covid, never more than 1.

Good chance of 30c today you'd think , if the cloud keeps away.

Charlwood 29.5c. I'd wager on it.

Charlwood is yet again way ahead of elsewhere. I think there’s a problem there.

That said, a warm day down in the far South today. Lots of 28s.

Met Office haven't said yet but wouldn't surprise me if they do discount later. 

Yes I think there is a good chance we will see the Charlwood values scrubbed from the record books at the end of this month. 

As for the coming heatwave, hopefully we can manage a 35C tomorrow but after Tuesday I can't see much of a heatwave for many. Mid to high 20s, maybe just about continuing heatwave criteria.

If it is dodgy why don't the Met Office discount it now? They did with Yeovilton the same day it went wrong. Very odd. Maybe it's legit? Who knows?

If Charlwood is accepted then that is 33 30C+ days which means we should break the record for most 30C days in a year on Tuesday.

Not another suspect 'runway effect'?

With a light easterly wind (as was the case today) the air could pass from Gatwick - I assume the observation station is near the terminal building at the east end of the runway - 3.7km straight down the length of the runways to Charlwood where the station is not in the village but on the Birchfield Estate  just 1km west of the end of the runway.

The ultra dry weather may be accentuating the conditions locally. We'll see

Possibly. The station is pretty much aligned with the centre line of the runway.

Regarding tomorrow's max, the GFS has nudged the temperature down a degree or so - still some 35C gridpoints but the 35C isotherm has almost vanished. I would expect to see the 15Z UKV update drop to 34 now.

I can empathise. It has dropped by a degree or so here on the 12z GFS op run too, so I think the 13°C isotherm has disappeared.

Well I've got a reply, 

"Thank you for your email in regarding the anomaly of temperature on that site.

It is currently a known issue and we are investigating it as we speak and possibly removing it as it is likely an error.

I will update you when an action has been made to resolve it."

Bit of a shame, but it didn't look right. 

One thing I would say is that the Met Office are very good at replying to queries. 

What about in the past when Concorde used to take off at Heathrow or any other airport during it visit, they have massive reheat but seem not effect the station temperatures?
