At least we have a cooling breeze here which is preventing the temp from rising beyond 33c

A quite ridiculous heat index of 43.4C now with a temp of 36.3.

Wouldn't be so sure about the June record either - Southampton just 0.5C short of it at 2pm. Amazing if it was Southampton that broke it again! If the old Mayflower Park station was still going it might already have done so...

Although actually I just checked and the Southampton site is not an official Met Office one.

It's not even 2 PM GMT yet, there are still 2 or 3 hours of potential heating to go.

Southampton (site ID 99079, which isn't listed on the MetO site but which appears on other lists) is reporting 35.1. 

Almost certainly it's been beaten 36.5C here earlier.. 

Not on the 3pm readings as far as I can see. 35.2 at Southampton, 35.0 at Gosport. Thorney Island has dropped 4 degrees in an hour.

Lots around the 34.5 to 35 mark. Stalled a bit here too, 36.3 and plateaued for half an hour.

So close, where are you seeing these readings please?

Chertsey and Wisley are both on the MetO list and showing 34.7 at 2.00 

with 2-3 hours left I would not be so sure the record is that safe
