Tuesday definitely seems to be firming up as the hottest day, with 38C on UKV and 40C on Arpege. GFS is still going for Friday as the peak though.

Where were you finding the Brogdale data? You used to be able to get it on the WOW site (eventually) but the Met has stopped that now, sadly.
There was talk of thickness records earlier - the 00Z GFS has a 579dam in Sussex, which would break the 578dam record from June 2019.

That's my station, and it's still accepting data every 5 minutes. TBH considering these obs make their way into the MetO's modelling - I can't for the life of me see why they would want to end it!

Well you can normally add 2c to ECM max temps. So 40c is definitely an option next week. I'd give it a 30% chance atm.
They might end it possible did not like the temperatures readings being so INTERESTING so they close it and keep those that are rarely show interesting figures. Epsom had recorded -24c in 1867 I think from the Surrey Weather book I got and 35c in September both had been removed and put another place being 35C on 1st September. They removed Tonbridge too because it reached 100.5C in 1868.
Since Cyprus Met allow so many stations opening there there some very high temperatures outside Nicosia as before they only had 5 stations for main towns, but now so many so seeing more interesting data especially in valley areas outside Troodos. Should do the same here as some places in the UK might had been capable reached 38-40C few times before.

What does that even mean in practice? I can understand a wind or snow warning red, but heat? What is the advice? Stay indoors? As if most Brits will listen to that! Head to the beach or jump in the nearest lake will be what happens as it always does, with a few drownings most likely again.

Starting to get a feeling about this summer, as I've always been a believer that the general summer pattern sets in around the solstice.
Was certainly the case in 2006, 2007, 2012 and 2022.
Could we be on the cusp of a record breaking summer?
