Another warm and muggy night, it's still 14.8 outside, which is the overnight low (dew 11.2, so at least that's a bit lower). 23C upstairs and that's with the windows open all night. The 91-20 average low is 9 or 10 this time of year, FWIW. Yesterday was warm, a high of 22.2, and today is likely to be higher - MetO raw has 24, even if their text forecast only has a max of 22 across the whole of the SE!

Last night was warmer than the previous night with overnight minimum temperatures of 11.59°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 12.59°C but the overnight rain which was forecast for here, completely failed to materialize thus showing yet again, the extent to which our weather just keeps on refusing to change in any way.

That said though, today has started off on a mostly cloudy note. The result of this is that regardless of what happens today, this month will now go down as being duller than average as there is not enough available daylight now to be able to bring this month's sunshine total up to the 1991-2020 May average.

In the last couple of weeks, we have seen a very gallant effort to escape with a sunnier than average month anyway but in the end, that massive deficit from earlier in the month has ended up being just too much.

Nevertheless, this has still been an exceptionally sunny spring anyway with this month being its only duller than average  month and since there are some breaks in the cloud cover just now, I won't be the least bit surprised if we end up with a decent sunshine total for today anyway to finish off this spring.

As I write, the temperature here in Edinburgh is currently around 15°C.

Finally, something a bit different to report just for a change, at long, long last!!

We are still seeing some fleeting sunny intervals at times, but there was some showery rain for a short period of time this morning which resulted in a total of 1.4 mm of rain being recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank. That isn't very much and as the rest of today is expected to be increasingly dry, this month's rainfall totals are clearly going to be below average yet again with the final totals for this spring also being below average. Nevertheless, this has actually been our first recorded rainfall for quite a long time, and is very badly needed in these parts.

In addition that, today is also shaping up to be cooler than yesterday with a temperature of only around 16°C here in Edinburgh as I write.

Rather warm, breezy and mostly cloudy (but with the odd sunny interval). 21.7, dew 15.1, the high so far being 22.2.

It's ended up hot again, just about the warmest part of the UK!

25.1, dew 12.3 (so at least not as sultry), with quite a gusty WSW'ly wind (and not the WNW'ly forecast).

EDIT: Still 22.6 at 7PM. It'll be interesting to see, whenever it eventually reports, if Brogdale gets the number one spot today.

Today's maximum temperature was 18.70°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 19.69°Cat the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so today was a bit cooler than yesterday but not by all that much.

As at 7:40pm BST (18:40 UTC), a total of 5.1 hours of sunshine had been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank with the rest of the day after my last post consisting of just the usual mix of cloud cover and occasional sunny intervals.

Even the temperature is no different from what it was yesterday at around 15°C here in Edinburgh.

White Rabbits!!

This is where the meteorological summer of 2026 begins but as I write, the Sun doesn't appear to be as keen to be shining here as it was during the spring now that we have just entered into the actual summer which is just like the thing and absolutely Sod's Law given that this is when more than any other season, we would actually want the Sun to be shining.

Indeed, this summer has started off on a dull, damp and dreary note here in Edinburgh after some overnight rain.

Last night's (that was the officially the final night of the meteorological spring according to actual stats) overnight minimum temperature was 12.29°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 12.63°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Currently around 13°C here in Edinburgh

Today's maximum temperature was exactly bang on 19.00°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 19.34°C which isn't much better than the average for this year and that comes with only a measly and pathetic (that would be the case even in the darkest depths of winter) 12 minutes of sunshine being recorded for the whole of today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as the Sun went from refusing to stop shining for the vast majority of the spring, to now refusing to shine given that we have now entered into the actual meteorological summer with a number of showers around as well.

All in all, a dismal start to this summer here in Edinburgh but despite the lack of sunshine, it is warmer just now than it was at this time yesterday with the temperature currently at around 18°C.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 12.84°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 13.56°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh

Currently around 15°C here in Edinburgh

8mm of rain so far this morning to add to the 24mm overnight and more to come I suspect

Turning into the wettest 24 hours for quite some time

Here in Edinburgh, normal service has once again been resumed in a location in which the weather just will not change from one day to the next, and where the rain just keeps on refusing to fall despite a very poor forecast for today and despite the fact that it clearly appears to be raining everywhere else according to the reports which I'm seeing here and on other threads in this forum..

In addition to that, the Sun has also made a little bit of a comeback now, albeit not to any great extent but we even already now have our first 20+°C maximum of this summer at Edinburgh Gogarbank even though today was forecast to be nowhere near as warm as that with everything supposedly going to be cooling down if anything.

As I write though, the temperature here in Edinburgh has now dropped back a little bit to around 19°C

Surprisingly pleasant day here, sun has been shining for the past couple of hours and temp has reached 20c. Only 1mm of rain and that was before I surfaced.
