Last night was warmer than the previous night with overnight minimum temperatures of 11.59°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 12.59°C but the overnight rain which was forecast for here, completely failed to materialize thus showing yet again, the extent to which our weather just keeps on refusing to change in any way.
That said though, today has started off on a mostly cloudy note. The result of this is that regardless of what happens today, this month will now go down as being duller than average as there is not enough available daylight now to be able to bring this month's sunshine total up to the 1991-2020 May average.
In the last couple of weeks, we have seen a very gallant effort to escape with a sunnier than average month anyway but in the end, that massive deficit from earlier in the month has ended up being just too much.
Nevertheless, this has still been an exceptionally sunny spring anyway with this month being its only duller than average month and since there are some breaks in the cloud cover just now, I won't be the least bit surprised if we end up with a decent sunshine total for today anyway to finish off this spring.
As I write, the temperature here in Edinburgh is currently around 15°C.
