Cooler today outside 26C and conservatory 40.3C so 5th day in the row to reach 40C and over.

I do hope this heatwave is not a That All Folks! for this year.  I need now to see June to update their outdated hottest record and it becoming embarrassing that June the month with longest day light, current global warming did not break any records yet.  It time to see at least 38C 100F or over to be reach.  Since May now donw at 35.1c then June need to do some hard work to go over it plus July and August.

This morning here in Oxfordshire it felt a lot fresher and more comfortable, but then the temperature seemed to rise again very quickly and it ended up feeling just as hot as yesterday. I have no temperatures to report, just purely the feeling being outside all day. Im not complaining, it was great, its just that my hope of getting a good sleep for a change seemed to be dashed 😟

Looks like a rounded 32c for Yeovilton which would be another date record 4th in a row

Incidentally that is now seven new date records set this year, and one equalled:

March 3rd, 18.2C at Wiggonholt (old record 17.8, Manston 1938)

= March 5th, 19.2C at Northolt (equals record from Huntly 1961)

April 7th, 25.6C at Llanfairfechan* (old record 23.6, Oxford 1859)

April 8th, 26.6C at Kew Gardens (old record 24.4, Brixton 1894)

May 24th, 32.3C at Kew Gardens (old record 32.2, Camden Square 1922)

May 25th, 34.8C at Kew Gardens (old record 31.7, Farnham/Heathrow 1953)

May 26th, 35.1C at Kew Gardens (old record 29.5, Inverailort 2012)

May 27th, 31.8C at Whitechurch, TBC (old record 31.4, Gravesend/Herne Bay 2005)

*TORRO lists this but says it is a non-Met Office site, Mona was 24.8C, still a record

Tomorrow's date record is 30.6 (set in 1944 at multiple stations) so a decent chance of five in a row: the Met are going for 31 in the SE.

Would be interesting to know what that old Camden Square weather station would have read in this spell, if it was still there. It features heavily on the date record list!

Had the channel Islands still been included in daily extremes then the overnight maximum low would have been smashed.

Guernsey airport low of 22.8C

Jersey St Helier low of 22.6

Jersey airport low of 21C

My PWS recorded a high of 29.6°C yesterday, down to 23.4°C today with that stronger easterly wind.

It is funny how you acclimatise to heat though. A 24°C day last week would have felt very warm, especially given the cooler start to May we've had, but after Monday and Tuesday's heat, it feels noticeably fresher.

CMC GEM 12Z I'm less sure about, but as with the UK Met, I don't think the problem is at our end.

The focus of the heat shifts back to the east today after the cooler breezes yesterday. Just got back from a run and it feels pretty warm already  should be a 6th 30C day in a row and quite likely a 5th date record in a row.

Quite a lot of cloud heading east now which might keep a lid on temperatures. I think we will just scrape 30 but the date record might be a stretch.

31.1 the highest I've seen so far at Heathrow. Kew still not producing many readings.

Dipped a bit here with the cloud and breeze, 28C from a high of 30.

Edit: 31.5C at Iver Waterworks.

I remember being flabbergasted by a week of 22+ in late April 2011. This knocks that skittle over.

Yep, Met Office tweeted 32.0C at Heathrow today. Was kind of hoping that Iver would take it to stop the usual runway moaners...

Another astonishing statistic about this heatwave: before 2026, the earliest in the year 35C was exceeded was 26th June 1976. This time it has happened a full month earlier!

I wonder what summer 2026 has in store?

32.1c in the garden with a good full covering of cloud, albeit a bit thin in places so some sun is still making it through. The breeze is still moderate, which is keeping it somewhat comfortable and very low humidity here.
