and all the moreso considering we were on the cold side of average for once 10 days or so ago!

The locals must been frazzled. I remember a few years ago being down in Devon when it was 30c up here and about 26c there and they all were saying it's boiling. We had a little laugh and then realised how lucky they are...

(And it shows the remarkable depth and heat-holding capacity of that airmass. As I mentioned yesterday very moist air takes an age to cool down, and it's no surprise to see those areas still in the 20s are those which had dewpoints in the 20s yesterday - there's a close correlation between dewpoint and overnight minima AFAIK. It's also why deserts can get surprisingly cold at night, there's no humidity/moisture to trap the heat!)
Much fresher overnight and this morning.👍

Michaela on Springwatch mentioned today's record but then followed it up with "it's been a very hot Spring" !

So far this year we have set one maximum date record in March (and equalled another), two in April and now three in May.
Amazingly we also got within 0.2C of a date minimum record this month too!

Edit... west seems to be hottest too. Approaching 30 in Exeter. Even 27 in Newquay!
5th 30c day in a row.
Still hot out west. 30.1c in Bude.

yesterday's CET of 23.2 makes it the hottest spring day ever by over 1C, and into the top 50 of hottest days ever

And the May CET now way up to 1.6C above average, when it was nearly a degree below by mid month IIRC.
Nailed on for a 16th consecutive above-average CET month now.
That's the top 50 of over 130,000 days!
Formerly of, Birdlip, highest village in the Cotswolds and snow heaven in winter; Hawkinge in Kent - roof of the South downs and Isles of Scilly, paradise in the UK.
Whitechurch in Wales dropped from 31.3 to 22.3 in an hour thanks to that big storm.

East Galway, Ireland.
Looks like a rounded 32c for Yeovilton which would be another date record 4th in a row
We'll probably get another tomorrow (my area is likely to be the hotspot), but Friday will be more of a challenge...
We should comfortably make it 5 date records in a row tmrw as well.
When was the last time we broke 5 date records in a row?Very unusual
To answer my own question looks like June 1976 which had 7 in a row.
Yes, it's amazing!
Not surprised there are some intense storms over SW Wales and S Ireland, with all that intense heat plus humidity fuelling them. The thundery trough must actually be an unusual warm front; it's cooler and fresher to the N of it in which its advancing towards.
it's cooler and fresher to the N of it

That's incredible. 😵😵😵😵

South Cambridgeshire. 93 metres or 302.25 feet ASL.
Same question for highest CET temp.
But a few miles inland it's as warm as ever, currently 29c in Chichester
Chichester 12m asl
If this week ends up being the warmest of the year, does anyone know when the highest daily max temp of the year last occurred in May ?
