That's 15 or 16 above average, then, almost up there with the 40 we saw in 2022... as you say, astonishing, and all the moreso considering we were on the cold side of average for once 10 days or so ago!

.

There's a report from the Met Office from last year that says that 45C could be possible in today's climate, not just in the future. I think it appeared in their Weather publication.

That is scary.

Another hot day with 33c and 18C and conservatory was 22.2C to 44.6C 112.3F which the hottest so far since I started reocrding it last year which only reached 44C in July 2025.  More humid today and in living room was 35.5C and rest of the house 30-32C so never experience this extreme heat in May before.

High of 29.9c today, 2c cooler than yesterday. Started hot and then plateaued as bit of cloud built up,  but no showers.

However now, a cooling east wind has arrived , clear blue skies again and down to 20.9c, very pleasant and about 8c cooler than this time yesterday!  The windows are open and the house cooling.

Remarkable temps here in our rural locality, 33.3c yesterday, 33.2c today.

Cooling down a bit quicker this evening due to cloud cover but no rain looking likely, all way too far north (as mentioned elsewhere) near Notts.

Remarkable day,

Camborne in Cornwall for example got to 30.1c, 5c more than its previous May record, 2c more than its June record and just 0.3c of its all time record.

Another May record for Wales as well, 32.9c at Bute Park, Cardiff after yesterday's record of 32.2 set at the opposite end of the country, at Hawarden.  As others have noted, it's scary that the new record is significantly higher than the previous record of 30.6c at Newport on May 29 1944.

Edit - I just checked and it is and more so 32.9c is just outside the top 10 highest temps ever recorded anywhere in Wales. Quite extraordinary for May.

Arpege suggesting that the heat may continue until Saturday with 30c or more exceeded every day until then.

If that verifies it will give 8 consecutive days of 30c in a row something that has only happened on 5 occasions before (according to the fantastic Trevor Harley site).

Interestingly one of those occasions was 1947 - that August had 14 days in a row as well as 6 in a row from the end of May to early June. What a hell of a year that was weatherwise with the heavy winter snow and extreme flooding too!

Got to a max of 35 °C at 4pm, an amazing spell of weather, fluffy clouds appeared later in the afternoon and some dark cumulus clouds in the evening, which dissipated north of Watford.
