I'm on a train from Edinburgh to Leeds to watch Leeds v Sunderland tonight. It's a horrendous day yet again. Fields and tracks are flooded. We've been travelling at 40mph so are late into Newcastle. Now have to change at York to get to Leeds......I hope the game is on!
After this storm I think Edinburgh will be nearing 100mm of rain (normal is around 45-50mm for April)
Given that it's still quite early in the month, we are indeed bound to end up with more than 100 mm of rain during this month for the second month in a row but that is something which might not necessarily happen as quickly as you would think (if high pressure was suddenly to take over for the rest of this month, that could still end up not even happening at all).
For most of this morning and afternoon, the rain has actually been a lot lighter to the point where there's only been a further 1.0 mm of rain at Edinburgh Gogarbank since 10am BST (09:00 UTC) this morning with nothing at all during the last three hours as I write.
In fact, the rain has now completely cleared away now with just the odd shower around and it's even become a lot brighter with some sunshine even starting to come through.
That in turn has allowed the temperature to creep up a bit to around 10°C here in Edinburgh as at 4:30pm BST (15:30 UTC) this afternoon although there is still a cold wind around.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
