I had been expecting DEW to start this week's thread (since he did give his usual daily summary in the MO thread) and have been waiting for a while in case he did so. Since he hasn't done that though, I may as well start this thread on his behalf.

Today is fairly bright here in Edinburgh with occasional sunny sunny although there was an earlier brief shower of rain.

It's not quite as windy as yesterday but the wind has picked up a bit once again in the last hour to around 46 mph from the SW at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Today is also not quite as warm as yesterday but it's still a lot warmer than of late and the temperature as at 11:40am BST (10:40 UTC) this morning was around 13°C here in Edinburgh.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

The highest wind gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank were now back up to 51.8 mph from the SSW as at 1pm BST (12:00 UTC) this afternoon and this is when everything was supposed to be calming down again after yesterday.😡

Yes another very windy day up in Auld Reekie with gusts over 50mph again. It has been a lovely sunny day so far with a 13 C Max.

Much better than Manchester where the big game is in rain

In addition to that, the wind has died down a bit although it's still fairly windy as I write.

As at 9:10pm BST (20:10 UTC) this evening, the temperature here in Edinburgh was around 10°C.

A nice, bright and sunny start to today here in Edinburgh just for a change and it's also nowhere near as windy as it was over the weekend.

As at 9am BST (08:00 UTC) this morning, the temperature here in Edinburgh was around 8°C, so it's a little bit cooler than of late but not all that cold.

Normal service for this spring has been resumed once again as it has clouded over during the course of this afternoon and now, it's started raining yet again as Storm Pierrick has now arrived here in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 3:30pm BST (14:30 UTC) this afternoon was around 13°C here in Edinburgh.

The rain missed us today, which might be an early sign of a pattern change. The transition can take some time but sometimes begins like this. I noticed this beginning a week or so ago as the fronts and lows stay out to the west. See what tomorrow's forecast storm brings.

9.0 C, cloudy, strong SW-ly breeze. EDIT (0815) cloud now breaking up and wind going round W-ly

For recent reports of South Coast regional flooding, see https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13286815/UK-weather-Storm-Kathleens-downpours-flooding-River-Arun-deluge-breaks-out.html  (but ignore reports of downpours and deluges - the river may have been high but the flooding was tidal - and it's just sloppy journalism). But the photos are valid

A wet and miserable start to today here in Edinburgh which very much sums up this spring overall.

Meanwhile, as at 7:10am BST (06:10 UTC) this morning, the temperature here in Edinburgh was around 8°C.

What an absolutely miserable day - rain veering between 'moderate' and 'heavy', all coming in sideways on a strong and chilly wind.

The type of weather I quite like in late November with dark nights and the promise of a winter on the way (not that that promise ever leads to anything decent these days), where you can hunker-down for the evening and listen to the rain lashing against your windows. In April, after months of awful, wet weather? No thanks.

I'm on a train from Edinburgh to Leeds to watch Leeds v Sunderland tonight. It's a horrendous day yet again. Fields and tracks are flooded. We've been travelling at 40mph so are late into Newcastle. Now have to change at York to get to Leeds......I hope the game is on!

After this storm I think Edinburgh will be nearing 100mm of rain (normal is around 45-50mm for April)

For most of this morning and afternoon, the rain has actually been a lot lighter to the point where there's only been a further 1.0 mm of rain at Edinburgh Gogarbank since 10am BST (09:00 UTC) this morning with nothing at all during the last three hours as I write.

In fact, the rain has now completely cleared away now with just the odd shower around and it's even become a lot brighter with some sunshine even starting to come through.

That in turn has allowed the temperature to creep up a bit to around 10°C here in Edinburgh as at 4:30pm BST (15:30 UTC) this afternoon although there is still a cold wind around.

7C. Medium high cloud with no wind, which is a contrast to the past couple of days.

It would be good to reach 16C for the first time this year, let alone the magic 21C.

WET….,again this morning with a fresh SSW wind.. yesterday morning I was picking our recycling out of the apple tree along with the bin. We managed to gust to just below 80mph from yesterday’s storm.

Later on around the autumn when sea temps are higher it's often the opposite and milder near the coast.

I'll probably be moaning in a few weeks if things get hot and too dry.

Today started off on a bright and fairly sunny note here in Edinburgh but you would need to have been up really early to be able to see that as it has now already clouded over once again.

As at 8:40am BST (07:40 UTC) this morning, the temperature was around 7°C here in Edinburgh.

We seem to be a some kind of pattern change, if that's the correct term. The forecast heavy rain for later today is gone from the latest BBC update. It was there earlier this morning. The precipitation that shows on the current radar is nothing more than nuisance rain on the ground.

I have no idea if this trend will continue but based on how these changes occur with weakening fronts as one sign, I think it likely that a dry spell (a long one?) beckons. Warmer/calmer/sunnier would be great even if we are already enjoying above average temp wise. It doesn't really feel it though with this cloud cover.
