We reached 12.1 C yesterday (from my 2 digital readings and Met Office site Swanston 2 miles to my SW) which is the 2nd highest after 12.4 C was achieved in January

Yes, typical Edinburgh weather I would say which is just plain old boring and uninteresting as per usual.😡

Furthermore and given that it's still technically "winter", 9°C isn't even the least bit "chilly" for this time of year and is actually quite mild.😡

EDIT

As I write, the Sun has just appeared, just as it is about to set which is just like the thing of course!!

We've had some sunny spells this morning and my 2 digital thermometers reached 12.9 C and 13.0 C around 1230 so we've likely had our warmest day of the year so far 😎

The Sun is back out again this afternoon as well after a very narrow band of rain brought a further 1.0 mm or so of rain to Edinburgh Gogarbank during the middle part of the day.

As for the temperature, it could be a very close call as to whether or not today ends up being the warmest day of the year so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

So far, the figure to beat for that is 13.10°C as recorded on 23 January 2024.

Today's highest recorded temperature so far is only 12.8°C but the actual maximum temperature is always either the same as or higher than the highest recorded temperature which makes it a real possibility that today could indeed be our warmest day of the year so far.

As at 4pm GMT (16:00 UTC) this afternoon, the temperature had dropped to 10.9°C but even that is still milder than it should be at this time of the year.

EDIT

Today's 12 hour maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank up to 6pm GMT (18:00 UTC) has been confirmed as 12.9°C.

Actual maximum temperatures are officially recorded for each 24 hour period from 09:00 UTC on one day to the same time on the next day but with the above mentioned figure, today is not likely to be our actual warmest day of this day so far after all, although we have ended up coming very close to that.

Looking at the radar it is raining virtually everywhere in Britain right now, apart from a sliver of North Wales, a bit of Kent and some of northern Scotland.

Here in Edinburgh, we're only just getting some light rain (this month's data (more info for that is on this month's precipitation thread) shows that we just don't get any big amounts of rainfall from these systems at any time, any more) but the wind has now picked up a bit.

It's yet another mild day as our frost-free horror show goes on (indeed, we have only had three air frosts all month at Edinburgh Gogarbank and given that we are now just over a week away from the end of what should be one of our coldest months of the year on average, that is absolutely pathetic😡) with a temperature of around 10°C here in Edinburgh as at 10:30am GMT (10:30 UTC) this morning.

Nice - the last frost here was the 27th January, so three and a half weeks ago...

It's currently windy here, cloudy, a bit of drizzle in the air, and 10.1C, which happens to be the high so far. Last night's low was 8.7, which is a more typical daytime high this time of year!

Ahh!! .. but you're away down south, so you would normally expect it to be warmer down there on average with fewer frosts as a result.

As I live in Scotland, it should be colder up here on average and this means that we should be getting more frosts as a result.

Even though the main frontal system hasn't yet completely moved through, it has now stopped raining altogether here now, and the Sun has even come out although it's now a bit breezy.

6.1c with heavy rain clearing.

It's a full 2c colder than the models forecast it would be for this point in time. I wonder if there'll be some wintriness in the heavier showers later. I reckon the Beacons will get a dumping today which would be nice after a relatively snowless winter up there.

Here in Edinburgh, there was some overnight rain which has now cleared away although there are still some showers around and we had a fairly heavy shower just as I got up.

That is now moving out of the way now, and it is gradually brightening up a bit.

Last night was cooler than of late, but still not the least bit cold and so our frost-free horror show goes on.

Currently around 4°here in Edinburgh as at 8:10am GMT (08:10 UTC) this morning.
