January total at Swanston, my nearest station 98.6mm (124.5%)
Just as a comparison, I have re-introduced the data from SEPA into this thread which then allows me to report the data for the botanic gardens in Edinburgh in addition to the data for Edinburgh Gogarbank.
With that in mind, the latest rainfall data for Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh are as follows:
Data For Recent Days24 Hour Total up to 9am GMT (09:00 UTC) this morning: 6.2 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 5.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh
I have not included any data for the period since 9am GMT this morning in this post as that is part of this month's total, and will therefore go into the new thread which I have started for this month.

The data for from SEPA for Edinburgh Gogarbank is very similar to the raw BUFR data for that same station which I reported earlier on, and that is how it should be.
However, the botanic gardens in Edinburgh is shown to have been a lot drier than Edinburgh Gogarbank despite those two stations being fairly close to each other.
Having said that though, both of those stations are shown to have been a lot drier than Swanston in the south of Edinburgh, so there has clearly been a very wide variation in rainfall amounts just across Edinburgh.
That is something which is very rare in winter (you usually expect to see that in the summer months when there is more in the way of convective rainfall around), so there must have been a number of low systems during January which impacted the south of Edinburgh without ever reaching the north of the city.
I can't remember that actually being the case though.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
