As we are now into a new month as well as a new year, I may as well get this thread underway.

According to many forecasts, it may well turn drier by a week's time with the possibility of high pressure building over or close to the UK, but we are still in an unsettled spell of weather for now and many of you may already have something to report for this month very quickly.

Regardless of how this month pans out though, this is the place for all of those important rainfall reports during this month.

Time to bump this post up towards the top of the listings.

There is a lot of rain around just now and I don't want this thread to get lost.

Absolutely horrendous start to January. The biggest joke I ever heard was that this month was going to be dry. It isn't. It is going to be another repulsively wet and depressing horror show. The wettest since 2016. Mark my words.

Unbelievably it's actually wetter than 2016 at this stage which is truly incredulous given that was the most disastrously wet start to a year ever recorded. 31.0mm already this month which is already wetter than the entirety of 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022. Just another 64mm to be wettest since 2016 and it seems hard to get a week passing without that now never mind four weeks

Already the 5th wettest winter I've recorded after just 34 days 🤮

It looks as Edinburgh is very quickly returning to being a place where it hardly ever rains anymore, even whilst plenty of rain is falling elsewhere.

2022 was a drier than average year here and then the first half of last year was also very dry.

If the latest model output is correct, it looks as though this year might be getting off to a very dry start here as well.
