Failed to reach 20C here this April, first time since 2016. Probably due to low sunshine levels.

Well thank you everyone. I have to say my thoughts at the start of the month were that the likelihood of being well above average would be tempered by some nights bringing the average down.

Shows how wrong you can be and still be right!

Here in the north of Edinburgh, the average temperature during April was 7.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, but that is 0.3°C below the 1991-2020 April average for that particular station.

I know that these threads mainly focus on the CET and that there has been a lot of discussion here about higher minimum temperatures keeping the mean CET higher than what they otherwise would have been.

Howeve, that hasn't been the case here in Edinburgh where it is the overnight minimum temperatures which have actually made it slightly colder than average. Edinburgh Gogarbank had an average minimum temrperature of 3.7°C which is 0.6°C below the 1991-2020 April average for that particular station with 4 official air frosts (139.9% of the 1991-2020 April average) and a remarkable 13 ground frosts.

However, the average maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was exactly 12.0°C which was exactly bang on the 1991-2020 average, although the highest temperature of the month at Edinburgh Gogarbank was only exactly 15.0°C which is lower than anything which I can remember recording for that particular month since I first joined this forum back in the summer of 2016.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

😂I’ve only ever been top once before and that was for a January.  It went downhill from there, so watch this space. 🤣
