Here in Edinburgh, overnight rain, sleet and snow has cleared away but it remains very dull, damp, dreary and misty.

Last night was our first night for quite a while without an air frost being recorded at any of my three local stations although the temperature did still manage to drop very close to 0°C despite the cloud cover.

As at 7am GMT (07:00 UTC) this morning, the temperature at Edinburgh Airport and the botanic Gardens in Edinburgh was still only around +2°C, but the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank had by then, already jumped up by around 4°C in just an hour to around 5°C.

That is clearly the milder air moving in and within the next few hours, I would expect it to have become a bit warmer with the temperatures finally getting closer to or possibly even above where they should be at this time of the time.

EDIT:

Having just posted what I have written above, it has now started to brighten up a bit with the Sun starting to make the odd appearance.

Here in Edinburgh, the wind has now also started to pick up as well although this is now a much milder wind than what we have been used to recently.

Here in Edinburgh, the temperature has now jumped up from around 0°C just a few hours ago to around 9°C as at 9am GMT (09:00 UTC). That is quite a massive rise in the temperature in a very short period of time. This now finally brings the temperature in line with what we would expect to be seeing at this time of the year and it's just a pity that the cold weather is being forecast to return in the next few days.

Why could that therefore, not have happened during the winter when I was actually wanting it to be cold and snowy?😡

A very pleasant day. Breezy with some sunshine before, reaching a high of 11.9°C, which is the mildest day of the year so far here. It's since clouded over though, as tonight front approaches from the west.

A remarkable contrast to yesterday. It's hard to believe snow was falling only 15-16 hours ago.

A much milder start to this morning than of late with the temperature already into double figures at around 11°C here in Edinburgh as at 7am GMT (07:00 UTC) this morning.

However, this morning has also started off on a wet and miserable note with our first significant rainfall for quite a long time which in the space of less than 24 hours, has already more than doubled our rainfall total for the whole of this month so far.

It is absolutely chucking it down here as I write and there is quite a wide area of fairly bright echos showing up on the latest radar map which suggests that there is a lot more to come yet before today is done and dusted.
