Yesterday wasn't an ice day at Edinburgh Gogarbank, but it was our 9th official air frost in the last 10 days.
We are only just half way through the month and yet, we now need only another 2 air frosts between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being frostier than average at Edinburgh Gogarbank. SInce the temperature at 10am this morning is likely to still be below freezing, that will already give us one of those required air frosts as that time is within the same official observation day as the upcoming overnight period and since it is 24 hour daily minimum temperatures which this is based on, rather than 12 hour overnight minimums.
In fact, we have already had more air frosts during this winter and although we didn't get an ice day yesterday, I would happily have taken what we did end up getting from that if I had been offered that a year ago when we were struggling so badly to get even close to anything resembling an air frost, let alone an ice day.
