Is there any chance that you could add the November CET average to it? It's always interesting to see who's gone above and below and by how much.

I was trying to find that on the MetO site but only found the data tables, so was taking a bit of time to work from that. Based on 1992 - 2021 avg I make it 7.33 for November, chart showing that below (as Saint says, only 3 of us brave/daft enough to go colder than average!).

Edit: Looking at the November numbers for the last 30, 30 and 10 years and the last decade averages the same as the 30 year average, so no strong warming signal. December on the other hand has warmed and has been generally mild or very mild since 2010.

I'd like to say that informed my speculative guess but as I only got the CET data a couple of hours ago it really didn't

December has actually been milder than November surprisingly often recently
2013, 2015, 2016

Had not happened since 1993 prior to that
2015 all the more impressive as November also one of the warmest ever !

And prior to that, since 1970:

88 85 74 71

So an interesting 25 year gap 1988-2013 but 4/18 years before that.

Truth is, they're all unusual if we consider December/ November's average temps long term.

All those examples you list were cold Nov followed by mild Dec as was 1993.
Three times in 4 years is alot though

Record year target now -0.43C. It should start plummeting into deep negative territory soon.

You mentioned the record 12 month period from back in 2006/7 was 11.6C I think. I might try some calcs to see what we'd need by way of anomaly to beat that. This Jan was "only" +0.8C so the 12m from Feb 22 to Jan 23 might be in the running if it's a warm winter.

It's looking increasingly likely that we'll see a gradual cool down after this week's very mild spell. Generally unsettled though so night temperatures unlikely to be especially low. However, I think the chances of a very mild November overall (i.e. 1.5C greater than the 1991-2020 average) are diminishing.
