If the dewpoints are as low as they are being predicted I would have thought overnight minimum temperatures wouldn't be too high ?

Indeed. Big UHI effect too when it’s dry because land use has a bigger influence than humidity on keeping temperatures up. It was 8.1C at my vineyard last night, and 16.7C at the nearest PWS to us in London.

I thought there was an indoor temperature thread.

What makes a thread "official"?

At least it will be mild!

Posting for posterity before it changes. These weatheronline sequences are usually on the optimistic side but still fun to see a 45 on a forecast:

Madness. 47c for Paris too.

If they start appearing on Weather Apps the hype will build even further amongst the general public.

Just eyeballing the data, and if anything, a neutral to negative Nino index favours hot sunny summers:

Which of course is more than likely just noise, but enough noise to knock the claim that La-Nina = bad summers out of the water.

A lovely morning here, after some early cloud. Today will probably be the first day of the heat wave here, though not quite "heat wave" temperatures yet. It's funny that until now, we've been stuck in the upper teens whilst the SE has had upper-20s... a common theme this summer so far.

Leconfield still annoyingly hogging the hottest location on xcweather. Warmest actual site seems to be around 25C.

Another nice day in Eastern Scotland too.

Here in Edinburgh, the temperature is now already up to around 23°C as at 12 noon and we don't have to go much higher than that for today to go down as our warmest day of this year so far.

That is now looking almost certain to happen and possibly even within the next hour but as per usual (as we have seen recently), RichardAbdn will no doubt still manage to find something about his local weather which we isn't happy with because at the end of the day, that's Richard for you down to a tee.

37.9C the highest in Spain by 1100Z. Yesterday Merida reached 42.1C and I think that will be comfortably beaten today.

UK highest at noon BST was 26.0C at Chivenor in Devon. Aboyne was reporting 26.2C but I think that must be an error. The corresponding dewpoint was minus 27.4C so something is wrong.

These faulty stations reminds me that during a previous heatwave one of the potential record breakers (Bedford I think?) went offline at the critical time. I wish we had a better and more extensive recording network in this country.

I can confirm that regardless of what happens between now and the end of today, today will now go down as our hottest day of this year so far here in Edinburgh.

As at 1pm BST (12:00 UTC) this afternoon, the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 23.9°C which already makes today the warmest day of this year so far at that particular station.

However, even that isn't the highest temperature here in Edinburgh. That accolade goes to the botanic gardens in Edinburgh where the temperature at 1pm BST (12:00 UTC) this afternoon was 25.2°C.

Furthermore, there is still plenty of time left for it to get a lot hotter still here.

At 1pm BST it's a three-way tie for the top with Chivenor, Heathrow and St James's Park all on 26.8C. That's approx 3 degrees higher than at the same time yesterday (23.8C at LHR and 24.0 at SJP)

Jerez de los Caballeros in Extremadura, Spain, already 40.4C at 1200Z. Potentially another 4 or 5 hours of heating to go.

The Aboyne 27C seems to be legit despite ridiculous reported dewpoint. Met office just tweeted it - Scotland’s highest temp of year so far.
