Not so much a moan but more of an observation really - just some very poor Met Office and BBC forecasts as well as models - not for the easterly but with regards to precipitation. The Met Office has a yellow weather warning of snow and ice until 11am tomorrow.

I accepted the channel low slipping into the Bay Of Biscay Tuesday - Fine but today it was due to cloud over with outbreaks of sleet and snow pushing in from the west later this afternoon - what we have are brighter spells and a really strong SE'ly wind. Furthermore, we should have had a 20% chance of snow at 1600 and 30% chance at 1800 in Exeter but this looks unlikely now.

It appears that every precipitation band that reaches the SW even Cornwall just fragments and evaporates which leads me on to another - This so called system' of sleet and snow on Saturday looks like it won't make it across and the Met office have replaced snow symbol and then sleet with cloudy skies and 30% chance of precipitation and +3c.

Not happy - grateful for the showers of snow this morning which left a dusting but still we could have done better - there are parts of Devon that never saw any snow and Dartmoor saw little - Some parts of Devon/Somerset/Dorset/South Hampshire/Wiltshire/Sussex have not even seen a flake yet. Wales has had hardly any snow too (if any) as far as I am aware...? Unless someone could tell me otherwise?

We all long to see a snowy breakdown so I do wonder if Saturday's snow which the BBC are currently forecasting is now at stake? Instead i feel we could get just spits of drizzle and sleet as the front fragments when it pushes eastwards. Or even worse more freezing rain.

Does anyone think the SW could still see snow tomorrow Sat?

I will gladly swap you an ice day for all the snow you have.

.. which is why I then went to say that we've probably had more than enough snow to do us for a while now.

The answer to that last question is probably No based on recent performance.

Two nights this week the BBC app has promised heavy snow showers for Dorchester but it was all a pipe dream. Now the warm up is showing I assume it will verify 100% and you could probably plan day to day outdoor activities to the hour if you wanted to until the end of next week. Also by March and April when easterlies are as welcome as the proverbial unwelcome guest at a wedding they will flounce back in as if to say “We’re back”.

More for Jiries than anyone. In recent summers when thunderstorms approach from France they boisterously head across the Channel from Normandy fired up with the humid Franco/Spanish and Channel airs and with my name seemingly firmly embedded as the target for the night. Then in a spectacular flash ten miles off Portland they move smartly to the left or right and illuminate places like Swanage or Abbotsbury with dazzling light shows before straightening up again as they make their noisy way north to Blandford or Yeovil.

If you don’t believe me look at the radar to see the deflector in operation next time there is a Spanish Plume. Same with snow perhaps.

Missed that! Thanks for sharing - glad they got a dusting - I wonder if Poole, Portsmouth, Bournemouth and Southampton saw a dusting too?

Another rant - notice how the precipitation evaporates/fragments as it moves inland  eastwards towards Devon: - A recurring theme I notice.

I'm going to have a negative moan and say I'm quite pleased with this winter so far,  we've had approximately 14 days when it's been snowing and at least 12 where there has been snow lying somewhere with a maximum of 3 inches on 2 days.  This has got to be more than we've had here in the last 5 years put together.

True but then every cold winter usually always has at least one ice day within it somewhere, and the fact that we haven't had any ice days this time does cause it to lose marks in my books if I am judging it out of ten overall.

Apart from that though, I am more than happy with every other aspect of this winter.

Only 2 days left and we can open the ratings thread. I’m really looking forward to writing a damning assessment of this easterly.

Same here - just to add insult to injury - the snow on Saturday (which was meant to reach the SW and west of UK), looks like it will be light (if any) and will fragment as it moves eastwards - even more so than i anticipated.

As for many other eastern parts - Well it would be a gradual warm up with rain on Sunday!

Yes saw it's mostly falling as snow - even 'Roadrunner' of Helston reported sleet and if west Cornwall can get sleet then surely east Devon can get Sleet at the very least if not snow. However, I am cautious as has often been the case - these showers decay and or fragment as they move inland.

How frustrating - given less than 100miles to your north (Braemar) it never got above -7c and temps fell to -23c at night. At least you had plenty of snow. You could get an ice day on Saturday?
