Another thing to moan about and I think 'ROADRUNNER' and others have touched on this - is the fact that many people esp those in the north and now the SE would have been fed up with the snow by now where as those who have yet to see a covering are still longing for it!

Here’s my take on the spell thus far for this small pocket of the world - shrugs shoulders and moves on.
A very entertaining build-up which has delivered a polystyrene ball and a nippy wind. A ‘decent’ winter easterly spell means drifting snow, sledging, icicles - if only for a few days. Non of that here and just a few cm of powder would have sufficed.
I still get excited about the prospect of unusual weather but my thoughts now turn to my number one preference - summer storms.

Managed to keep my snow shield in place for the last two days. Heavier showers 10 miles to the north yesterday, 10 miles to the south today.

For the first time in days we have a proper convective streamer in the SE....

Just the odd 25 miles from my house. Great.

I would be very surprised if much settles though ,during daylight anyway.

Snow melting rapidly today and the temperature is already 1.2C. What cold spell.

I've put a crack in my snow shovel making a trench through the 10 inch snow to the pavement 😞

I’m done watching blobs now. I’ve seen a grand total of 75 snowflakes here since Monday but that’s me lot until the next chase in 2026.
In the list of easterly spells since 1978 here this goes at number 11 and there are only 12 in the list 🙂

Not a single ice day here during this cold spell. Pathetic.

I have been SO unlucky with showers from this spell. They have all slipped either just to the north or south of me. This latest one a perfect example!

I really hope this is the final cold spell of this winter. I really am well and truly done with it now. I know cold, snow and wintertime in general is popular with many on the forums (obviously as we're all weather enthusiasts), but for some it really is a long and arduous mental and physical struggle that really starts to outstay its welcome eventually. I don't know whether this one has seemed longer because of all the pressure from the lockdowns as well, but I'm just about done with it.

So slightly better than the one around the end of the first week of January 2021 I guess?

Not so much in terms of depth, but in terms of frequency, it's probably been the snowiest winter since 2009-10.

So in other words lot's falling but little accumulating? What about winter of 12/2013 and BFTE in Feb/March 2018? What's your highest depth so far this winter?

I had about 7cm by the end of 20 January, when Storm Christoph turned to heavy snow for a time.

February-March 2018 was about the same on the morning of 1 March. Might have even been a bit deeper actually.

2012-13 was mostly crap. I think the deepest was about 4cm on 21 January. March was rubbish - cloudy with sleety horrible muck.

What's the total depth for this easterly/cold spell then?

After the unrelenting disappointment of this ‘cold spell’, I don’t want to see another one until November. A repeat of February 2019 would be most welcome by me.

We have had two ice days and just missed out today at 0.1c. It has been an ok cold spell , perfect for those that like to look at snow without it causing any distruption. Fluffy snow and non marginal falls, only really melting on the roads and pavements and that has slowed in the last 2 days. My main issue and it is a big one for me is lack of deep snow. After today's showers there is 3-4cm on the grass in the gardens, doesn't meet the standards for a good Easterly. But there seems to be a bit more snow here than other parts of Leeds , even just down the road,  if I was looking at green grass I would be much unhappier. Also at least we didn't miss out on a foot of snow by 15 miles etc which could have happened if a good streamer set up further south.
