relatively speaking the worst of the winds were in less built up area with just smaller towns. I guess if was a 150 miles or so east or west the media would have been more hyped.

Louise notwithstanding. this season is trying to establish a reputation as the one with lots of mini-storms. We're up to 13 named storms in record time but only one major hurricane. Now there's a pop-up disturbance in situ over N Florida forecast to become TD and run away into the Atlantic and die there.

The eastern Pacific showing a similar trend with (I think) only one hurricane, Gabrielle, but also up to 9 storms of lesser magnitude

Disturbances shown in the tweet above: the Caribbean and the one off Carolinas are developing nicely though not TS yet; those on the Atlantic having trouble getting started. The latter could interfere with N Atlantic circulation soon

Nothing of consequence in E or C Pacific

Which one will become Nana first? My guess is the Caribbean system

Well ... er... no. The one off the east coast of the US made it to TD status first (TD15) and should be a named storm by the end of today (Tuesday). But lhough NHC has it moving out well into the Atlantic on Sat, that development is ignored by GFS and only just acknowledged by ECM.

Th Caribbean disturbance just isn't getting organised. Odds for development are still high (NHC quotes 70%) but these are downsince yesterday

Sounds like Maysak gave a glancing blow to Okinawa but now threatening S Korea (and later N Korea) with only the second recorded landfall of a major hurricane in that country , and more or less directly on S Korea's 2nd largest city, Busan. Previous record of major Hurricane landfall in S Korea was Sarah in 1959 with 669 deaths. Maysak may also break the low pressure record, being forecast at ca 940mb; previous lowest was Meimi in 2003 at 950mb.

I was right the first time! 15 will be Omar, Nana heading towards Mexico

Lucky guess Damn TDs taking a delight in beating the odds.

But Nana might just make hurricane status before landfall near Belize. Current forecast is for it to emerge on the Pacific as a TD, so it'll be interesting to see if it revives and joins the select band of disturbances which have attained TD status in both oceans.

TD 15 now keeping us guessing as to whether TD 15 will actually become Omar or maybe it won't come up to scratch.

TD 15 did make it to TS status, Omar, but now fizzling out in the Atlantic; Nana currently making landfall in Belize. Next up, a disturbance setting out from Africa given a 70% chance of development over 5 days (quite high for one in that location) and will probably swallow up the one preceding it. If this makes it to TS status as forecast ca 8th Sep, that will still be a clear week earlier than any previous  P-named storm.

Meanwhile South Korea getting a double hit, first Maysak, now Haishen

R.I.P. Nana - didn't quite make it over into the Pacific

Omar and a nearby 'son of Omar' also dying on their feet but new disturbances in central Atlantic look ready to go.

Typhoon Alley really producing the goods this year, but hardly gets any publicity outside of the region

That’s normal. It seems a ship of 6000 cattle and 40+ crew was lost off Japan earlier this week in the previous system.
Haishan just dropped below super status:

It's remnant low has become Julio though 🙂 Nana's ghost lives on.

Definitely ghostly ... NHC had declared Nana's remnants to have dissipated 24 hours ago but maybe there was just enough left to start up what looks like a rather puny TD.

Keep watching the central Atlantic though - the disturbance at 40deg W can't spend much longer at 90% odds of development before bursting into life.
