Here in Edinburgh, the total rainfall for this month so far as at 11am this morning was 56.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 52.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

That still leaves us needing at least another 17.8 mm of rain between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average at Edinburgh Gogarbank in terms of the actual rainfall amounts with another 9.6 mm of rain needed for the same outcome to occur at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

That might not seem like a lot, but we must keep in mind here that there hasn't even been a single official rain day at either of those stations since 11 November.

It's raining outside just now as I write, but it still isn't doing so with any great conviction and although that rain might get heavier here later on, the latest forecasts suggest that the biggest bulk of any rainfall over the coming days is still likely to be much further south from here.

Earlier on this month, this was looking almost certain to go down as a wetter than average month overall, but we now haven't had a really wet day here since 4 November and based on the latest forecasts, I'm struggling to see where that wetter than average outcome for this month is now going to come from.

A total of 8.0 mm of rain fell at Edinburgh Gogarbank during the 24 hour period which ended at 9am this morning, along with 7.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this brings the total for this month to 64.0 mm, the total for this autumn to 239.6 mm and the total for this year to 797.0 mm as at 10am this morning.

This means that a minimum total of 9.8 mm of rain now needs to fall at Edinburgh Gogarbank between now and the end of this month, in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, this brings the total for this month to 59.8 mm, the total for this autumn to 245.4 mm and the total for this year to 782.4 mm as at 10m this morning.

This means that a minimum total of 2.4 mm of rain still needs to fall at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh between now and the end of this month, in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

This also means that a minimum of 2 official rain days needs to occur at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh between now and the end of this month, in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the number of official rain days.

In addition to that, this also means that a minimum of 2 official rain days needs to occur at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh between now and the end of this month, in order for this autumn to go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the number of official rain days.

Since my last report on here, a total of 4.0 mm of rain has fallen at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 2.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this brings the total for this month to 68.0 mm, the total for this autumn to 243.6 mm and the total for this year to 801.0 mm as at 8pm this evening.

This means that a minimum total of 5.8 mm of rain now needs to fall at Edinburgh Gogarbank between now and the end of this month, in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, this brings the total for this month to 61.8 mm, the total for this autumn to 247.4 mm and the total for this year to 784.4 mm as at 8pm this evening.

This means that a minimum total of 0.4 mm of rain still needs to fall at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh between now and the end of this month, in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

This also means that this month will go down as being wetter than average overall in terms of the number of official rain days at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh if any more official rain days are recorded there between now and the end of this month.

In addition to that, this also means that this autumn will go down as being wetter than average overall in terms of the number of official rain days at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh if any more official rain days are recorded there between now and the end of this month.

A total of 4.8 mm of rain fell at Edinburgh Gogarbank during the 24 hour period up until 9am this morning, along with 2.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

In addition to that, a total of 7.2 mm of rain has fallen at Edinburgh Gogarbank since 9am this morning along with 8.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 11pm tonight.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this brings the total for this month to 78.4 mm, the total for this autumn to 254.0 mm and the total for this year to 811.4 mm as at 11pm tonight.

This means that more rain has now fallen during this month at Edinburgh Gogarbank than the 1981-2010 November average for that particular station which means that this month will now go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the actual rainfall amounts regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, this brings the total for this month to 71.4 mm, the total for this autumn to 257.0 mm and the total for this year to 794.0 mm as at 11pm tonight.

This means that more rain has now fallen during this month at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh than the 1981-2010 November average for that particular station which means that this month will now go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the actual rainfall amounts regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month.

This therefore means that for both of those stations, our increasingly long wait for that elusive first drier than average month since April goes on.

After 30.0 mm had fallen today, I have just done my sums and it shows that I have had 220 mm of rain so far this month in my back yard here at Folkestone.

Here's hoping December will be a somewhat less moist month.

A total of 9.0 mm of rain fell at Edinburgh Gogarbank during the 24 hour period up until 9am yesterday morning, along with 8.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

In addition to that, a total of 2.6 mm of rain fell at Edinburgh Gogarbank in the 24 hour period up to 9am this morning along with 2.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this brings the total for this month to 81.8 mm, the total for this autumn to 257.4 mm and the total for this year to 814.8 mm as at 9am this morning.

However, the number of official rain days both for this month and this autumn will go down as being slightly below average at Edinburgh Gogarbank regardless of what happens during the rest of this month as there are no longer enough days left in this month to bring those totals up to the 1981-2010 average.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, this brings the total for this month to 74.2 mm, the total for this autumn to 259.8 mm and the total for this year to 796.8 mm as at 9am this morning.

This means that there has now been more official rain days during this month at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh than the 1981-2010 November average for that particular station which means that this month will now go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the number of official rain days regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month.

This also means that there has now been more official rain days during this autumn at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh than the 1981-2010 Autumn average for that particular station which means that this autumn will now go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the number of official rain days regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month.
