I’m not measuring or recording rainfall but this has certainly been a wet month following a very dry summer here.

34mm of rain from the rain event through Friday/Saturday has brought our October total up to 103mm so far.    Currently the 3rd wettest October I've recorded behind 2013 and 2004.

229mm of rain so far this Autumn, meaning it's already the 3rd wettest Autumn I've recorded, with only 2000 and 1993 ahead now.

Pershore received a total of 41mm of rain in the 48hrs covering Friday & Saturday, which equates to 2/3 of the average months rainfall of 60mm. Result being flooding of the River Avon in Evesham, though not severe. The worst flooding in the general area is from the Rivers Severn and Wye ,especially Worcester and Tewkesbury.Hasnt helped that a large tide and set of bores were due the first half of the week, which means extra water pushing up the severn which must stop some of the flood waters moving down from dissipating as quickly

It's been a while since I last posted here, but I would like to correct a few things there as those totals were actually a bit higher than what they were as it turned out.

To bring everything up to date, the latest total for this month at Edinburgh Gogarbank is 88.8 mm as at 10pm tonight, along with 102.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For the autumn, these totals are 169.4 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 180.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh whereas the totals for this year so far are 754.3 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 684.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

These numbers aren't quite a high as what I reported beforehand, but they are still well above the 1981-2010 averages for this month which means that this has still been a considerably wetter than average month in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

However, we didn't get any of the recent rainfall which affected most of England and Wales and because of that, there has actually been very little in the way of rainfall here during the last week or so.

This has also meant that the number of official days is actually slightly below average during this month at both of those stations and with just two days left of this month to go, there aren't enough days left in this month for the number of official rain days during this month so far, to be able to catch up with these averages.

This means that regardless of what happens during the last two days of this month, this month will actually go down as being drier than average at both of those stations in terms of the number of official rain days.

Now that we have just entered another new month, I can now confirm that the final total for October comes out as 93.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 104.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this is 110.1% of the 1981-2010 average for that station whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh had 138.1% of its 1981-2010 average rainfall during September.

Overall, this shows that October was wetter than average at both of those stations in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

In addition to that though, Edinburgh Gogarbank only had 9 official rain days during October and this shows that it was actually drier than average there overall in terms of the number of official rain days since that amounts to just 70.3% of the 1981-2010 average.

In addition to that though, the botanic gardens in Edinburgh had 11 official rain days during October but that amounting to just 88.7% of the 1981-2010 average, thus making October a slightly drier than average month there overall in terms of the number of official rain days.

Meanwhile, I can also confirm that the total for this autumn so far as at 09:00 UTC on 1 November 2019 was 175.6 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 216.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that is 81.2% of the 1981-2010 average whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had 91.3% of its 1981-2010 average rainfall during this autumn so far as at 09:00 UTC on 1 November 2019.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had 22 official rain days during this autumn so far as at 09:00 UTC on 1 November 2019 which is 60.8% of the 1981-2010 average whereas the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has also had 22 official rain days during this autumn so far as at that same stated time which is 65.1% of the 1981-2010 average.

Finally, I can also confirm that during 2019 so far, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had a total of 733.0 mm of rain as at 09:00 UTC on 1 November 2019 which is 97.2% of the 1981-2010 average, whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had a total of 720.8 mm of rain during 2019 so far as at 09:00 UTC 1 October 2019, which is 102.3% of the 1981-2010 average.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had 108 official rain days so far during 2019 as at 09:00 UTC on 1 November 2019 which is 78.7% of the 1981-2010 average whereas the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had 107 official rain days during 2019 so far at at 09:00 UTC on 1 November 2019 which is 86.2% of the 1981-2010 average.

My final total for October 2019 is 105.5mm (194% of average).   It's the third wettest October I've recorded in the past 37 years behind 2013 (116mm) and 2004 (110mm).

Takes the Autumn total here so far to 232mm.  Already the wettest Autumn here since 2000 with the whole of November still to go !

Monthly total for October here was 85.1mm which is 100% of LTA.

Total for year to end October is therefore 441.1mm which is 79% of LTA for YTE Oct.

We could still do with lots more rain to make up the deficit from the last two years.  Looks as though November is going to make up some of that deficit according to the model output. (q.v.)
