Looks like we're on for the record today

We were actually hotter by this stage on July 1 2015: Heathrow was 32.6C at 10am. But then there was a dip around midday for a couple of hours, otherwise I think 38C+ would have been smashed then as well.

From your last post yes in 2015 I was so annoyed too because I think we could had got a 40C that time.  33C here in Lower Stoke now and cloud free.

If we're going for a new record we've got to be over 32C already and comfortably so.

http://www.winchesterweather.org.uk/  - might just be threatened.

Keeping an eye on those showers in the Channel - they do look like potential spoilers - but for now it's clear blue and glorious.

Several others just below 30 at 10am in East anglia worth keeping an eye on, should be less affected by cloud until later on

I'd liked to have seen some 33C by now; but I think I am just getting paranoid

33.1C at Heathrow on the 11am reading. Still well ahead of 2003. (31.5C for reference). It'll reach 35C before midday, then it's a question of how soon the cloud arrives.

I notice the HARMONIE model has it down to 23C by 7pm in the London area as storms race in!

Also worth keeping in mind that it’s the flow from France that’s enabling such extreme temps today, with local surface heating important, but not quite as much so as usual when looking for record high temps.

Shower reaching Bournemouth looks to have fizzled as it encountered dry thermals from the land.

Typical thundery high based skies looking a post on FB from Bournemouth. Potential for popcorn storms but as long as the instability line stays W of London I'm happy
