yep. And currently not a cloud in the sky here in central London. If the storms stay away then I think 40C is a real possibility.

Sat waiting for a train at Basingstoke station with a blazing breeze at somewhere around 28*C. Feels amazing... but probably won’t be so pleasant for anyone doing so this afternoon!

Those Heathrow figures are staggering, and the London area as a whole isn’t far behind from the looks of things.

I’m headed for Bicester where high-res models show a 35-39*C max depending on which you look at. It’s for a meeting in a office. The air con better hold!

10am temp here just 24.1c. We had a very narrow streak of cloud that blocked the sun for about half an hour , denting progress.

27.3C here in Sheffield. Another half a degree and we'll already be past yesterday's max, which wasn't too shabby!

Really hope we can get 35C here.

For here in Edinburgh, the only information which I could find for any sort of temperature records has been on Wikipedia where there is a list of record temperatures for each month at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh (the only one of my three local stations which I could find this information for), going back to 1960.

According to that data, the July record is exactly 30.0°C and the all time record is 31.4°C as was set during August 1975 (as confirmed on that station's own website).

Looking at the latest model output on the Brian's main headlines on this site for today, I have noticed that whilst the BBC/Meteogroup have made Glasgow the main focal point of today's highest temperatures in Scotland, the model output as shown on the TWO home page for today shows the main focus of today's highest temperatures to be here in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

That model output is showing a possible maximum of 29°C for here in Edinburgh but as Gavin P. always says in his videos, you can usually always add a degree or two onto that. This would therefore make a temperature of 30°C or even 31°C a real possibility for here in Edinburgh if that came off.

This would at the very least, put the July record at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh under threat, with the outside chance that this could even challenge the all time record for that particular station.

The only problem here is that the temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh was only 19.1°C as at 9am, and there is also the possibility of showers and/thunderstorms moving in later on this afternoon. If that moves in quite quickly, that will probably put paid to us getting any temperature records here.

If the onset of those showers and/or thunderstorms is delayed though and if we continue to get more in the way of sunshine than what has been forecast, then I wouldn't yet rule out the possibility of at least one of those records being challenged at the very least.

EDIT:

Still only at 19.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 10am and in addition to that, that dreaded NE breeze from off the North Sea has also set in. Such a breeze always scuppers our chances of getting any sort of high temperatures because that then makes things a lot cooler and so with that in place, there will be no chance of any records being set here today.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

The office where i work is on an upper floor with NO air con. Its unbearable.
Thankfully, I am on leave and sitting in front of my home air con and when I go out later, I have a cracking air con in my car. Ways to enjoy this historic day which will probably never be repeated in our lifetimes.

Concur. These are holding togeather. They need to steer clear of West London as that's the hot spot currently. Its making me very nervous right now.

They look on track for somewhere to the west of London. I think the heat on the land might give them an extra boost when they arrive.

My plan's for tge day are on hold.

Those showers are really zipping along and will be raining into dry and hot lower level air, so they’ll have to become large and intense to do a lot to the temps IMO.

There's always something ready to mess up a record in this country, whether that be hot or cold! :/
