Ben, does it look like that system is taking a more northerly direction?  Looking at the rain radar it’s changed from N/E.

The intense stuff is developing on its western flank Caz so you're right, but I think the overall steering direction is still NNE. Eastbourne perhaps?

Split the difference?  Go on then!  Eastbourne it is.  Seven Sisters side though!    At the moment it’s heading straight for Brighton but I get the feeling that once it gets out to open sea, it’ll get pulled East.

Looks like the Channel Islands are getting in on the act too!

Kent has just sparked something as well near Romney. I wonder if Ian saw that.

Is that rotating updraft going on there with those super cells? If so that could be very serious indeed

all the real good stuff remains over France and dies as it hits the water. Not surprising as France has been hot today with plenty of sunshine to kick those evening storms off.

Activity maintaining itself over the Channel - as I said, not SB storms, so less of an issue. Indeed some storms happily initialising over the water.

Can make out strobe lightning to my far western horizon as the thundery stuff make it's way slowly and painfully NNE-wards over the Channel.  The ol' AM radio is crackling away like a good'un.

Also very muggy at 17.4 c outdoors and 30 c indoors. I'm looking like an extra from Tenko.

Currently fixated on the Kent cell giving off forked lightning to my north rather than the thundery stuff still going off over the Channel to my west.

Just heard a rumble of thunder to my south, and lightningmaps.org has shown a strike to the west of Southborough, which must be its origin.  The area of lightning around Eastbourne and SE-wards into the Channel looks very active, but I think it's moving slightly East of North, so is likely to miss here.

Looks as though the area round Cranbrook and south to Robertsbridge is getting a fair pasting.

Edited to add: the TWO rainfall radar for that area shows the highest category of rainfall rate (white) corresponding to >32mm/hr

Looks as though the storm has now reached Sittingbourne/Faversham and the eastern end of the Isle of Sheppey.  That'll be waking Darren (Retron) up.

Spectating a thunderstorm with forked lightning and heavy ran, but oddly little in the way of rumbles and thankfully little in the way of squally winds so far.
