That’s interesting too Lanky!  Thank you.

As GW said, there were not many date records broken last year but it seems this year is off to a good start.  We’ll keep an eye on this year!

April is on 6.3C (-1.2C) here as of this morning, not sure it can make up that now with a week to go.
The recent 20C days haven't had as much effect as you'd think due to cold nights.

Very warm Easter period in Central England with similar temperatures on all days.

Here are the CET means by my calculations for the 4 day weekend:

Friday 14.35C, Saturday 14.46C, Sunday 14.45C, Monday 14.42C

None of these is a CET date record. However, for the weekend as a whole this could be the warmest Easter holiday on record for the CET area. The previous record was set in 2011 which was way above any previous Easter.

Here are a selection of the warmest Easters for the CET region with the date of Easter Sunday in brackets.

2019 - 14.42C (21 Apr) (prov)
2011 - 14.33C (24 Apr)
1984 - 12.08C (22 Apr)
1979 - 11.43C (15 Apr)
1999 - 11.42C (4 Apr)
1992 - 11.18C (19 Apr)

Not surprising that the top 3 are late in the month but 1999 is impressive, right at the start of April. Didn't 1949 have an average of 14.52? If the CET was:

16.0    16.0    13.9    12.2

for the 4 days, then that would be the record holder and even more amazing at the middle of the month.

Sorry should have said that list only went back as far as 1950. Now had a look back to 1772 when the daily CET series starts.

1949 - 14.53C (17 Apr)
2019 - 14.42C (21 Apr) [prov]
2011 - 14.33C (24 Apr)
1926 - 13.55C (4 Apr)
1984 - 12.08C (22 Apr)

As you say, 1949 is slightly warmer than this year. Another year that comes into the list is 1926 when Easter was very early in April.

Same here. I've gone for 8.94C. (Looks at table) Seems like you've gone for something almost identical. Saturday especially looks pretty cool so that should drag it down a bit. However I won't be complaining with anything in the low 9s.

There’s likely to be a downward adjustment as well!  GW had it a little lower than Hadley earlier in the month and he’s usually near the mark!

If that provisional Hadley value was the actual final figure without any cooler temperatures and downwards corrections to come, that would be absolutely perfect for me.

It's just a pity for me that this isn't the case in this instance.

The provisional Hadley data is still 0.5C above my calculations. The CET to yesterday is 8.98C by my figures. Should stay steady for the next three days before a slight uptick in the final two days. Current estimate is a finishing number of 9.11C.

It is perhaps indicative of how many crazily warm Aprils we have had in recent times, most especially since 2007, that this month has actually felt pretty underwhelming and average overall in terms of temperature. A few days of exceptional warmth around Easter - and even then "exceptional " is a bit of a stretch as we seem to get such spells almost every April nowadays - notwithstanding.

I agree.

This April reminded me in some ways of 1984- poor or mediocre followed by a week of Easter sunshine and 22+ temps, also with a keen breeze at times.

2007 and 2011 were really unusual for the duration of warmth (especially in 2007) and the intensity (in 2011).

Here are the top UK temperatures by day in March which have now been published by the Met Office. This includes manual stations.

No date records this month and indeed we did not even manage 20C in March. Warmest was 19.8C on the 30th at Kew and Faversham. Coldest was 11.5C on the 12th at Westonzoyland (Somerset).

One notable point is that Whitby had the highest temperature for three days in succession.
