Best bet is to simply engage in now-casting from tomorrow onwards. Don't take the warnings so literally as there will be places outside of those zones who get buried and places within who see next to nothing. Trust me.

Yeah but he's from Portsmouth so he might as well forget about it warning zone or not. 

On a positive he might see a few flakes falling from a rogue shower, or a slight over night dusting (0.5cm or less), but still it would be wise to forget the idea of making a snowball let alone a snowman.

Yes, I know he is in Pompey - as you, Neil and I are.

I am fully aware of the Pompey shield and am under no illusions that Portsmouth is probably the location which receives the least amount of snowfall than any other place within the United Kingdom and probably, Malta aside, in Europe 

EDIT: The reason I still came back here is because if coming back to the UK, I wanted to come back to my roots and number 2, I had my snow fix over 15 years in Bjorli. Now 46, I am no longer fixated on snow/cold and much prefer warmth, sun, daylight and summer. I am also far more thrilled by thunderstorms than snow nowadays and that is something which I never saw in Bjorli.

Countryfile forecast just aired with Sarah Keith Lucas presenting.

Nothing out of the ordinary in terms of the forecast. Had disruptive snow for southern and western areas Thursday extending north on Friday with snow possibly turning to rain for far south then. Still looked cold though!

I notice ITV weather have consistently been referring to a “historic” and “serious” cold spell next week, with disruptive snow - that is clearly the Met Office thinking. 

Hopefully the BBC Countryfile forecast just now suggested similar words? Would be good to watch it back. Should really have been a classic.

Didn't see the Countryfile forecast but I did see the south east one and the national one. The S.E one didn't leave you with the impression parts of Kent are quite likely to see disruptive snowfall this week.

The national one left my wife with the impression we're likely to miss out on the snow and may well end up with nothing.

Now, given we're talking showers they may be right for where I am but to not flag that parts of the south east (inc Kent, y'know as per weather warnings out) could well end with enough snow to cause issues was a bit odd.

Just to make the emphasis weirder they did flag the weather warnings and had various graphics for snowfall, upto 10cm for near the south east and more in places like the north east. However all they mentioned was 'flurries'.

The more I see of TV weather forecasts the more I think I'll stick with looking at the weather models, listening to the more knowledgeable bods on here and checking the more indepth stuff put out directly by the met office

I think it emphasises the uncertainty by Thurs/Fri and the suggestion that almost anywhere could see a major spell of disruptive snow.

ouch i feel your frustration !! we've all been there at some point in the past however you're still sure of seeing some snow

I don't think those boundaries should be taken too literally. There's no way they can be precise this far in advance. Change the forecast wind direction by 10 degrees and they'd be somewhere different.
