So here are the detailed stats for September.
For the CET area it was the equal fifth warmest on record
For the UK as a whole the Met Office is estimating it was either the second or third warmest on record. See link to blog entry below. The chart there shows East Anglia, Essex and Kent as the places with the highest deviation from the mean (>2.5C). The key thing about this year is that the whole of the UK was very warm. Most places apart from N Ireland, Cornwall and the far west of Wales were more than 1.5C above average. These figures are slightly overstated because the chart on the Met Office blog compares the first 27 days with the mean for the whole of the month. But nevertheless a warm month nationwide.
September warmth in the UK
Here are the charts for the CET area. We had 3 date records, from the 13th-15th. The 15th only equalled the previous record whereas the other two days smashed the record.
For the CET area both minimums and maximums were around 2C above normal. For the maximum it was only the 7th highest on record whereas for the minimum it was the 3rd warmest on record.
As noted earlier in this thread the CET for the first 15 days of September was the second warmest on record and 0.3C warmer than 2006.
