So here are the detailed stats for September.

For the CET area it was the equal fifth warmest on record

For the UK as a whole the Met Office is estimating it was either the second or third warmest on record. See link to blog entry below. The chart there shows East Anglia, Essex and Kent as the places with the highest deviation from the mean (>2.5C). The key thing about this year is that the whole of the UK was very warm. Most places apart from N Ireland, Cornwall and the far west of Wales were more than 1.5C above average. These figures are slightly overstated because the chart on the Met Office blog compares the first 27 days with the mean for the whole of the month. But nevertheless a warm month nationwide.

September warmth in the UK

Here are the charts for the CET area. We had 3 date records, from the 13th-15th. The 15th only equalled the previous record whereas the other two days smashed the record.

For the CET area both minimums and maximums were around 2C above normal. For the maximum it was only the 7th highest on record whereas for the minimum it was the 3rd warmest on record.

As noted earlier in this thread the CET for the first 15 days of September was the second warmest on record and 0.3C warmer than 2006.

2016 17.47C

Annual CET competition - September update

Here are the latest tables. As mentioned a few days ago it is all change this month. Now remarkably tight across the whole of the top 10. All to play for in the final three months.

Congratulations to Wobbly-Monk who has moved up 8 places this month to the top of the table for the first time - but only by 0.01C.

GezM is back up to second after being at the top of the table back in January.

Bertwhistle is also back into the top 10 for the first time since March and reaches his highest position of the year at 4th.

Just outside the top 10 both Gavin D and Gusty continue to make good progress up the table.

It really is wide open this year.

Don't forget that for November and December the predictions will be made by PM to me rather than directly into the CET thread in order to keep it fair and avoid tactical predictions as we get to the business end of the year.

Thanks GW for all your efforts on this!

I am happy I didn't fall further than I did, so that's a relief

Thanks GW! Quite a remarkable month following a remarkable summer, esp here in the SE. Looks like it fooled quite a few of us in its warmth, looking at the table!

Thank you. That makes sense and it is amazing.

Thank you GW!

Congrats to the winners commiserations to the losers and well done to everyone for taking part.

I'm surprised I managed another climb this month but that was due to the weather surprising us and not because I'm good at this!

I'd also like to say a big thanks GW for running this fun, light-hearted competition, and also for all the fascinating stats that you include with it. I've always been an amateur weather & climate enthusiast and I find the statistics you (and others) bring into this really informative. I'll enjoy my very brief moment in the sun leading by a whole 0.01C! It's great that the competition is so so close with many potential contenders for the top spot. Good luck to you all!

Can you stretch that to the top 17

Seriously though, thanks again GW for all your hard work, much appreciated.

We could really do with another fluke December (well we have had 2 in 6!) to shake up the table even more.

Yes. This has been the best year so far as it's still all to play for. Last month was a great leveller.

Thanks GW- can't believe I've made it into the top 4- but I now feel my October prediction will, like my April one, kick me back down the stairs! Congrats to all in the top 10 and all on the climb!
