They can genuinely be title contenders, they just need to stop the damaging defeats to lower league opposition (ie, Burnley 2-0). Seems they only turn up vs the big boys. If that continues it'll be Europa League at best, and nobody wants that.
Dropping points against teams lower-placed in the table is a problem.
WRT Burnley, saw an interesting report on the game, about how Burnley had identified that Liverpool like to pass the ball quickly & crisply to feet at pace. So they let the grass grow longer to slow the pace of the ball, then prepped their players to go for intercepts and close down fast, as Liverpool players would take time to adjust. Clever stuff. Liverpool will need to be able to adapt in future, whether on longer grass or boggy pitches.
