9.3C (-0.5C) here.
It might go up a point this final week with milder nights compared to most of the month.

Saint S

In the midlands  we have had a couple of cold nights recently after the rain passed thru on sat pm.

It wasn't forcast be I droped to 1.8C on sunday early hours.

It only takes a couple of hours of clear skies with no wind for the temps to tumble overnight at this time of year.

Yes, I should think so. Another 0.2c or more in that upwards direction and my guesstimate won't seem so bad

Time is running out for it to fall to my 10.3c guess.  I'm not surprised it's on its way up again as it's been quite mild here for the past 48 hours, although the temp has dropped a bit tonight.  My guess maybe a little too low for October and goodness knows what November will bring if the current outlook is to be believed.  I think it may catch some of us out.  Ahh, the good old British weather.

GW, could you please post some past CET averages for November to help with my guess, otherwise I'm likely to go for something totally tropical.

Thanks HT.  I will heed your words.  It's easy to get carried away by the current weather when guessing for the coming month.

My calculations suggest that October will finish around 10.8C.

With November potentially looking very mild - at least for the first half, those looking for a cold winter might be hoping for a repeat of either 1928 or 1822. The CET for both these years is tracking 2015 quite closely since July.

Conversely a repeat of 1994 would be what those looking for a mild winter will hope for.

The car thermometer today was showing 16c; even at 8pm it was at 15c. I know this method gives poor accuracy, but as a general rule, it's usually within 1c (unless in direct sun, which it wasn't)

Surely the CET will inch up a degree.

anything's better than a downward correction

Here are the charts for October. Temperatures ended up slightly above average. Overall the autumn though is still below average.
