Local radio stations in Hampshire (wave and solent) updating the list of schools and colleges that will be closed tomorrow due to the incoming severe weather.

As it is lovely down here today, with sunshine and green fields , but assuming it was based on the forecast yesterday for a rapid deterioration on Thursday, is it premature or sensible ?? ...

My kids were sent home today from school- because we had light snow all morning and the head teacher saw that the area had been upgraded to amber warning for this afternoon. What happened? Light snow flurries and a general melt of the snow, a complete waste of parents and pupils time. Its easy with hindsight though

Im a veteran of a number of severe winters and this spell is up there with the best is terms of cold and (for some) snow. As for tomorrow, looking at all available data I think it’s a decent call to announce closures as it ‘could’ get dicey in the afternoon and especially Soton west. Pompey will be dry and sunny though (😉)

That doesn't seem right. I distinctly remember the red warning in January 2010, in fact I think I've still got the screenshot saved.

Keep an eye on your neighbours' roofs :)

The image was posted by police in Devon, who have warned that if your neighbour's roof remains remarkably clear in the next few days, there's a decent chance they might be growing cannabis in there.

Do the presenters get a bonus if they finish a report with "there's more on the " or "it's only going to get worse". Only they trot this out whether it's true or not. On tonight's BBC News talking about the overnight snow in London they said it was going to be even worse tonight with more heavy snow forecast. Well yes for Scotland but London is only right on the edge of the Yellow warning. No wonder the public get confused.

Bbc spotlight weather goes for 10-20cm to fall quite widely with the potential of 50cm's of snow to fall over DARTMOOR:

But then mentioned freezing rain so hope this comes off and ends Exeter's snow drought.

Unsurprisingly, the Met Office has extended the yellow warning in the South East westwards.

The warnings are verging on the apocalyptic over here. People in the East and South are being advised to stay indoors after 4pm tomorrow. They're talking about 40cm of lying snow in places by Friday evening.

Good forecast from N Miller

Its quite a worry though that he doesn’t mention snow depths for tomorrow

The Mets video shows possible 20cm across parts of the SW 50 on hillier areas

Just had to explain to the Mrs that the apocalyptic white out for the whole country tomorrow morning shown on the BBC weather was in fact cloud and not snow. It's just crap graphics. She was not impressed!

In other news, 7 inches of snow in last 24 hours. Superb stuff.

The 10:35 BBC forecast showed only patchy and showery snow East of the Isle of Wight tomorrow. Although it was hard to interpret the graphics. Seemed rather disappointing for here, In spite of many of the model output.

BBC Spotlight now say that there is a potential for 40 to 50cms of snow over Dartmoor and 10 to 20cms to fall quiite widely! and for some freezing rain and then more snow! Also shows a max of +1c for Friday and what was forecast to be +6 of Saturday has been downgraded too.
