Until xioni2's late entry, that was the highest punt, as far as I can see? Here's hoping we're seeing clearly the way of the weather

One of the big challenges with this competition is spotting the months where there are large deviations from the mean. Never easy but it can be done. I picked December 2015 as a very warm month and it shot me up into second place. If I had been braver I could have gone one better.

I have a strong feeling this month will be significantly warmer than average (>50% chance I think). So worth a punt given I am languishing near the bottom of the league this year. I would not be surprised if we breached 16C but I didn't feel brave enough to go that high. But I did think about it.

16.8C equals the record - but to keep that going for another 3 weeks is one heck of an ask.

Wow. A quarter of the month gone and some good temps forecast for next week. Those predicting a high CET look set for a good call.

It is the minimum temperatures that are keeping the CET very high at the moment. Currently 3.7C above normal (measured against 61-90 per the Hadley site). Maximums are 2.1C above normal.

Chilly night to come tonight across the country, so I think with today's rubbish weather we'll see a fairly big drop by Monday, but after that we have at least 4 days of warm nights and 3 days of hot days. To hit the halfway mark at 17C+ would be quite something. It would take freakish weather to keep this going long enough to beat the 2006 record though.
