Typically, a warm up is looking increasingly likely just as the month draws to a close. Odds are that a one-week delay in tropical forcing is what stands between a July finishing near 16.0*C and one finishing somewhere in the 17's.

I certainly won't be going for a warm one for August.

Down to 14.2C here now, which is -0.8C

2011 and 2012 were colder though, at 13.7 and 13.8

Today's figure is about right for me, given that it's likely to be adjusted down but it's looking likely you'll be closer to the mark than I am and you've gone even lower than me!

Currently my estimate for the July CET remains at 16.01C. However, the figures for each day have moved a bit. We could potentially see sub 13C CET returns on both Wednesday and Thursday. These could be one of the lowest figures on record for those dates.

29th July 2015 CET estimate 12.67C (equal 10th lowest on record since 1772). All time low for 29 July 11.0C

30th July 2015 CET estimate 12.50C (12th lowest on record since 1772). All time low for 30 July 10.6C

Phew and what a way to finish the month off. The CET for July 1st was 24.5C and we're looking at finishing the month off no less than 13C or 14C degrees colder than the beginning.

That has to be a record difference in one month by a long way.

If this was repeated in Winter we would be looking at CETS ganging from 10th more at the beginning and about -6C at the end. :-O

Its incredible how the cet has fallen off a cliff this month. The past week has been more like October than July and am beginning to wonder if the summer of 2015 has already ended,it feels like summer lasted a month at best

Today, this morning the wind chill has felt very cold indeed

Its going to take something spectacular now to rescue what is turning out to be one of the most disappointing summers I can remember.

This made me wonder what the maximum range is when comparing the highest CET (mean) and lowest CET on a daily basis for any particular month. If we got a CET of 12C for instance at the end of this month, then the difference would be the 24.5C on the 1st July compared to (say) 12C this week giving a difference of 12.5C

It turns out that for July data, 1948 has the record being 25.2 on 29th and 11.4 on 9th giving a difference of 13.8C. More recently 2001 had 23.0 on 29th and 12.7 on 15th giving 10.3

It seems the summer months JJA are the least variable in this measurement having no entries in differences of 14C or more out of a total for all months of 99 entries

The all time record for any month is Jan 1867 with a range of 19.4C being -9.3C on 4th and 10.1 on 27th. More recently November 2010 has 17.6C being 13.6 on 4th & 5th and -4.0 on 28th in the run up to the record cold December 2010

I see lots of discussion about this on the boards but I'm curious about the fact that the month started off warm and then declined to such an extent. Your two July examples have a more expected progression of warming increasing as we go into heart of summer. To me, it is not just the temp range but the timing and the fact that heat has been very near but unable to get into the bulk of the CET region.

Anyone seen the film "On the Waterfront"? I can almost see this July after it is over sitting back and quoting Marlon Brando's famous lines

13.9C this morning - it won't go up by month end, but not sure we'll drop another 0.1

This summer has never really got going here at all, other than a brief settled spell in the second week of June.

June wasn't great by any means, but this month is turning into an abomination. Only had one dry day that I can remember here in the past fortnight, which was last Tuesday. Has almost felt like the disaster that was 2012 all over again.
