As the article says, the process is ongoing and the last eruption was around 640k years ago, with a cycle of around 700k years.

Unless you come up with an elixir of eternal life I don't think it's going to be a problem for you - or any of us.  More likely that the consequences of global warming will hit us first.

I'm guessing this was based on the 5+ magnitude quake in the vicinity on the 27th? There have been quite a few smaller quakes around the island in recent weeks so it is worth keeping an eye on.
