What a difference a day makes, and what a day!!! 😱 David James, Nicky Hunt and Damion Stewart all in today. Pee taking of James aside - anyone who says he isn't a quality signing at this level is off their head to be quite frank. Stewart and Hunt another two quality signings! 😱 another striker coming in - possibly Dave Kitson - and another midfielder too! Lansdown is flashing the cash as promised. Roll on next Saturday 😁

Lol! True 😂 We picked up another two injuries last night. We now have 11 injuries in a squad of 24 players. In other words we don't even have enough fit players to field a full side plus subs 💤 we are in deep brown stuff to say the least 😱

.....  Although Wickham's injury might help put off the ugly premiereship hyenas who are after him .....

For now.

Agreed.

I will be interested to see which James shows up. Is he going to be like he always was (and subject to the odd gaffe of course) i.e. largely a safe pair of hands as he looked to regain the England spot. Or, given he'll never play for England again, will he fook about for a year and simply collect the money each week. Interesting times.

Yeah

The worst thing that could happen to a lad like Wickham now would be to be signed up by a top Premiership side and never play first team football again ......  The only reason any of them want him is to prevent someone else getting him!

He needs a couple more seasons at Ipswich and then a move to a lesser premiereship club - asssuming by then that that isn't Ipswich!

Actually, Spurs, who are well known to be interested in him, would loan him back to Ipswich for a season. That would be part of any deal.

The problem now of course is he's crocked. Do they (Spurs) decide to still take a punt on him - just to ensure Arsenal don't get him? Or do they take a risk by walking away and coming back in the January transfer window?

Yes, I saw that and it would be an acceptable solution

Arsenal is the death of up and coming Ipswich players - just look what happened to Richard Wright. In fact, even experienced players have gone downhill after leaving Ipswich for the Arsenal....  Don't think any have ever improved as a result of a move there.

Apparently Liverpool have also expressed interest.

FFS! You couldn't make it up. Two more bad injuries this afternoon. Nicky Hunt signed yesterday and has possibly broken his ankle today 🤬 And now Lewin Nayatanga has been stretchered off! We now have 12 key injuries and the season hasn't started yet. Most of them are long term injuries too. This has been the worst pre-season we've ever had I think. Slightly off topic, but if anyone fancies a flutter on who will finish bottom of the Prem then go for Blackpool - diabolical

Turns out the broken ankle is a slight sprain and the stretchered off injury is a groin strain. Basically we need a world class physio to go with our goalkeeper

In other news, the guy who told me (correctly) that we were in for David James has text me tonight to say we are negotiating a loan deal for Michael Owen. Make of that what you will

Major blow this morning. Maynard is out for at least another month and could need surgery which would rule him out for at least the first half of the season. This would pretty much finish any promotion chances before the season even starts as we don't have anyone else who can score goals 🤬

MIght force the club's hand in the transfer market Matty and then when Maynard does come back you will have 2 people who can score regularly

Morning Ian. We are trying to get Arsenal youngster Jay Simpson on a loan and are also talking to agents about Dave Kitson and Jason Roberts. Hopefully one of these will come off. I listened to 5 Live's football league preview show last night and all three pundits (Claridge, Warnock and Clement) said they expected Bristol City to be promoted. Not too much pressure with over half the squad out with long term injuries then 💤

You have to wonder how much these 'experts' have delved into the injuries and off the field problems etc or if they have gone on squad listing and from from last year. I see that Sky have put Middlesbrough as being the champions of the division and not a single person in this area seems to think they have a hope. Pessimism or realism?

I think people naturally tend to talk down their own clubs chances, but Maynard out for months is a serious and damaging blow to any chances we had. Our next highest scorer had 6! Yes 6! And he's injured too for at least another 3 weeks. After that we don't have anyone at all! and we haven't added in the striker department. So, to say we are in **** street before a ball is even kicked is pretty accurate I think. Even if we do bring someone in there's no gaurantee they'll gell into the team and be successful.

I think Boro have bought well and will be up there. If I had to pick the top 6 teams (injury free) in no order they would be:

Boro

Forest

QPR

Reading

Bristol City

Sheff Utd

So, they'll probably all get relegated

Interesting that you don't see any of the relegated teams in the picture, but you could well be right.

Well, Portsmouth are in ruins and could still be wound up. Hull are in ruins too and could enter administration. Burnley have a chance, but their manager is a twit and they were so awful last season I think this season could be a rebuilding process. They are possibilities though. Another to throw into the possible frame is Norwich. They've sold over 20k season tickets, which is remarkable, and they have a good squad
wallaw

and the makings of a really top class manager too (just a shame about the Chairlady). Hull could be the one for me and now that Orange Brown is no longer there I wouldn't mind. They seem to be trying to do things a little better by letting only a few out the door.
