OMG! This is a bloody joke. I've already highlighted our incredible injury list and tonight - in this pointless competition - it has got even worse! Vokes loan terminated after 45 mins on Saturday due to a snapped hamstring. Tonight we have lost Hunt (stretchered off) and Skuse (hobbled off) we had to play an academy guy tonight just so we had enough players to make the game. What on earth are we going to now with another two gone?? Surely questions have to be asked about fitness and training methods? I've never known anything like it

And it just keeps on getting worse and worse:

Skuse had done his hamstring and is out for 6 to 8 weeks and Maynard DOES need an op. He's out til next year.

Well that's that as far as I'm concerned. We've gone from promotion favourites to relegation candidates in the space of a few weeks and it's all injury related. All of these players are out for weeks and weeks.

At least you wont have to read my rants in here for a while because I've lost all interest. The first few months of this season are going to be all about how many we lose by. Every single one of out defenders is out long term. All of them. Both left backs on the books, all three center backs and both right backs.

I just hope we are not adrift by the time we have a squad again

BREAKING SKY SPORTS NEWS - Steve Coppell has resigned as Bristol City manager. Keith Millen will replace him.

He didn't last long !! 112 days I believe.

Just 2 games in charge and he resigns. How about David James for player manager?

Be interesting what Matty thinks about this.

Gotta say those Bristol boys aren't having the best start to the season

Yep. He only lasted something like 30 days at Man City before doing exactly the same thing. He also walked out on Reading and Palace. This is what he does

Gutless, spinless mummies boy who ALWAYS runs off when the going gets tough.

Good riddance to be honest. He's certainly made himself look a right idiot

I wouldn't have appointed Millen, but you can't fault his commitment and passion. Something that Coppell has none of whatsoever

From the BBC Sport website:

Quote:

Steve Coppell has been here before.

As the shock of his decision to quit Bristol City after two competitive games sinks in, immediate comparisons are being made with his still-unexplained exit from Manchester City after a mere 33 days.

The similarities are uncanny: two clubs in the second tier of English football but with high hopes and expectations of a return to better things; two painfully short tenures indicating all is not what it seems beneath the surface; and, at least for the time being, the air of mystery and intrigue that make Coppell such an enigma.

Enigma? Interesting choice of word. I have a few, but they'd all have to be written with letters blanked out to beat the swear filter

Apparently, Steve Coppell was quoted earlier today as saying that he'd lost enthusiam for the job, or words to that effect. Er, well in that case, why did he decide to accept the job in the first place, less than four months ago? Surely it can't have been the case that he had plenty of enthusiasm and energy for his job at the end of last season when he was appointed, but doesn't have any now. He is now saying that he intends to retire from football management. If he has lost his appetite for management as he claims, this is probably the best thing he can do. I don't really see any other clubs being willing to take a chance on him now, given what happened at Man City years ago and now at Bristol City.

As the piece I quoted above states, there are many similarities. Here are his opening statements with both clubs when he joined:

Man City:

Quote:

"I'm delighted to come here - it's a golden opportunity and I'm just glad that it's fallen into my lap," Coppell said, as he sat alongside a smiling Francis Lee the day Manchester City's then chairman unveiled his new manager

33 days later he was gone

Bristol City:

Quote:

Fourteen years later, Bristol City chairman Steve Lansdown was beaming too as he listened to Gary Johnson's replacement address the gathered media.

"This club has a history in the top division and the chairman has huge ambitions for the team and the stadium," said Coppell. "I feel very fortunate that he has given me this opportunity."

112 days later he was gone.

Basically the guy is weak minded and watery and, ultimately, a bottler.

at least its taken the spotlight (well dim torch really) away from my lot and our crappy gutless sparkly new era if we lose to yeovil on sat expect the pressure to be on John Trollope in this world of expectation and immediate success. My work mate is a City fan (tulip head) which allowed me to set him a sports quiz this lunch time ques 1 name the Bristol City manager, he got the question wrong

One of the bar flies I know is a gashead (yes, he's the other one) before this season started he said Trollope would mastermind another awful season. His words: "We'll probably have a goal difference of minus 20 by September" if only that 6-1 hadn't been in the cup 😂 I have pointed out to him on many occasions that Rovers are AT their level in league one anyway. Crowds of 5k and a 'stadium' made out of bits of scaffolding and tents dictates that 😉

Supposedly, Coppell was ticked off at Calamity being brought in over his head. I've no idea whether this is true or not.

Complete nonsense. He suggested it. He pursued it and he brokered the deal. He admitted all this the day after James signed and James said he only signed because Coppell convinced him to.

I think you're right matty but you grow up supporting a team from 6/7 years old and thats the team you support whether they are in the prem or the conference and every august you think this doesnt look too bad this year and as far as Bristol teams seem to go, you are soon let down. as for the mem its home I like watching from the terracing Ive watched from the Gazebo end its ok you live by your means, as I said once before it beats getting dragged round cribbs by wife and daughters. I do enjoy a bit of inter city banter but I support Bristol soccer If city win thats great Im pleased if they lose thats also great and I can take the pee out of my mates from the south side. But My money and loyalty go to Rovers through thick and thin (thin and thinner). This year I fear thinner we will have to see what I make of our new players against Yeovil tomorrow.

re The Coppell saga do you think he was upset by the violence at the Milwall game or is that also just paper talk.

Season over. Time for a new one. We have a summer of transfer activity and hope and expectations to discuss.

For my part I have no idea how we will do next season. There are a few key things. We now have Steve Coppell at the helm. We have plenty of money and a man who knows how to spend it wisely. A lot will depend on if we manage to hold onto Nicky Maynard. He has come out and said he isn't going anywhere this summer, but talk is cheap as we all know. The club have stated there is no financial reason to sell him. They are trying to achieve promotion to the Prem in the next 2 seasons and we need to hold onto our best player, and Maynard is the best striker in the Championship. One thing is for certain, if he does go it wont be to another Championship side. Time will tell. It's going to be a long summer.

I thought I might remind you how you started this thread off back in May, Matty. The first seven words are very timely.
