Is Frittenden an official Met Office site? I'm wondering because looking at the maximum temperatures for the UK on the Meteociel website it comes up with a maximum of 39C. Is that a mistake?

It is an official site and the 1800Z and 2100Z max readings do indeed show as 312.15K which is 39.0C but it's clearly a mistake - either a glitch or the screen being opened or something along those lines. The highest hourly reading was 33.1C there.

Umbrellas used as parasols seem to have become a 'thing' this year. Very reasonable, but I don't remember this nearly as much in previous heatwaves. Do your observations agree?

This week in this region, umbrellas have been used for their more conventional task.
More rain overnight here. Yesterday was mainly cloudy and I think maxed at 23c. Cloudy so far again today.

These fires tend not to start on their own. The financial and social costs are carried by all of us. I wonder how the forensic fire investigators approach this area?

28.7c at Frittenden, can we hit 30c today?
Frittenden is usually OK but something weird happened yesterday. It is close to the forecast hot spot on GFS so probably OK. 29.4C at Charlwood looks a bit dodgy though.
In fact it looks like Charlwood has reported an official 30?

Yes Charlwood looks 1.5C higher than anywhere else. Rain here now for the last couple of minutes and the petrichor smell is intense. Although as I type it seems to be stopping again!
Frittenden got to 29.0 at 3pm when Charlwood had fallen back to 27.4C
