We may or may not see another 20+°C maximum today but one thing which the last couple of days has taught us is that this is likely to depend on how quickly the Sun breaks through.

If the Sun comes out fairly early like it did yesterday, a 20+°C is probably a dead cert but if the Sun takes quite a long time to break through as was the case a couple of days, it is then unlikely that we will get that 20+°C maximum. The Met Office has the Sun coming out quite early here but isn't going for a 20+°C maximum here.

At the moment, there is nothing to suggest that the Sun will break through quite quickly this morning because if that was going to happen, I would already be starting to see some signs of that even as I write which is not actually the case just now.

Nevertheless, it is clear from recent days that the Sun is obviously going to break through in the end, so we might actually end up not being all that far away from another 20+°C in the end. Nevertheless, recent Met Office forecasts had suggested that today would be the day when we start to lose that North Sea influence as the high pressure to our NW drifts a bit southwards over the Atlantic Ocean, but the latest data is showing that there are are no signs of that happening as of yet. If we do lose that North Sea influence later on though, that could increase our chances of a 20+°C maximum even if it takes a while for the Sun to actually break through.

Turns out that I didn't have to wait all that long whilst I was out and about for the clouds to start to break up and for the Sun to begin to come through (that is a process which usually happens so quickly that I rarely actually get a chance to report that process itself whilst it is in the process of actually happening).

Even before the Sun has fully broken through here and even with a lot of cloud still around here, the Sun has probably already broken through a bit further inland in locations such as the in the south of Edinburgh and I can tell that the Sun is probably now shining at Gogarbank as the temperature has suddenly jumped up to around 16°C there whilst remaining stuck at around 14°C at the other local stations in Edinburgh.

Since this is happening only an hour later than it did yesterday, a 20+°C maximum at Gogarbank is probably looking fairly likely now, so there's probably not much point in me reporting much else from now on as the rest is just going to be boring and predictable once again.

Yep!! Just the same old story yet again which is why it's all just really boring, predictive and repetitive now which is why I see no point in providing any further updates here myself any more.

DP is only 14c so not feeling too bad out today.

It's forecast to get even warmer over the coming days as well, even whilst the rest of the UK cools down a bit.

By the end of this coming weekend, we might even see the other local stations such as the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which are much closer to the coast, eventually getting to join that party as the wind gradually changes direction with much less of a North Sea influence.

At the moment, there is a lot of high cloud around which is making the sky look very milky and making the sunshine very hazy.

However before it arrived the temperature almost reached 22 C at Gogarbank and 21 C at Swanston so feeling very pleasant today.

Temperature dropped from 28.7c now down to 19.5c Huge water droplets - not seen rain for weeks!!

Looks like this will be it but least it will be cooler.

That high cloud had some impact on today's sunshine totals but not all that much and the overall stats continue to be as boring as ever in my books as this month is probably still going to be sunnier than average in the end.

For those who are interested in those stats though, a total of 8.5 hours of sunshine had still been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 7:40pm BST (18:40 UTC) this evening.

This means that today wasn't as sunny as I was expecting it to be because of that cloud cover but today was slightly warmer than yesterday with a maximum temperature of 22.02°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 18.04°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The cloud appears to have thickened a bit more this evening, so Jerry is probably not likely going to be able to get any sunset photos after all but unlike on other recent nights, we can at least say that is unlikely to be due to any easterly muck coming in from off the North Sea on this occasion.
