Thanks for pointing that out John, not far from me at all. We will have to get used to more of these wildfires

I’m driving down the A303 to Devon tomorrow, stopping in Somerset for lunch. Will keep a beady eye on the car thermometer.

Heatwave score update: assuming the Wisley reading is the final one, we’re at 13.8 + 6.6 = 20.4

Reminder that the ones in our sights are July 2006 and August 2003, both with scores in the 40s. June/July 1976 remains way out in front for now.

Hi all - long time lurker here and finally registered. I came across this stat on Bluesky and it's driving me insane that I can't seem to find the data to verify it - please can someone help!

It says, 'Between 1980 and 1999, 35 degrees C was reached just 5 times. It was rare and exceptional. Between 2000 - 2020, we reaced 35 degrees eighteen times. Between 2020-2025 we reached it 23 times. The same number in 5 years than we achieved in 40 years..'

Now, I get the sentiment and yes extreme temps have accelerated but I can't find the 23 instances of 35 between 2020 and 2025 - I think there were six 35 degree days in 2020, four in 2022, three in 2025, and none in 2021, 2023, 2024. Or do you interpret this stat differently? Is there a central list of this sort of data somewhere? I like my weather facts to be accurate!

Thanks for any help!

Using the yearly graphs at Starling's Roost Weather (eg https://www.roostweather.com/ukobs/ukgraphs.php?type=yeardailyextreme&field=temp&year=2020&country=UK) the stats are:

2020: 5

2021: 0

2022: 2

2023: 0

2024: 0

2025: 0

So only 7 between 2020 and 2025. (And now six this year).

And from 2000 to 2019 the only years that hit 35 were 2003 (3 days), 2006 (1), 2015 (1), 2018 (2) and 2019 (1), so 8 days (or 13 if you count 2000-2020).

Not quite as hot here today, but still very warm. I did a parkrun this morning and it was a truly arid scene - clear blue sky and yellow strawlike fields. 28.2C here, and hotter further west. Haven't seen any official 30s yet today though.

Well after a slight blip yesterday were we only managed 29C it's once again in the 30's.

That's 5/6 of the last days to hit at least 30C down here and looking at the forecast there could be another 4-5 more to come.

Stuck at 30C here with occasional puffs from a breeze; quite enough for me.

Plenty of 30-32C from Exeter  north to Liverpool

33.0C looks like the max, at Yeovilton.

BBC weather just now still talking about a change to cooler and wetter weather next weekend.

As for the Monday peril, I think 30C should be safe. Latest UKV has a max of 31 and Aprege goes for 32. One of Bournemouth, Exeter, Yeovilton should make it.

UKV also has 35C on both Wed and Thur next week - although Arpege only has 32 on Wed.
